I personaly think that J1.5 is the best CMS build ever. BUT most extensions that we used in the past don`t work on J1.5, and this is very problematic.

- fireboard 1.0.4 - working 99%

Unfortunately, what I think is happening is developers are releasing products as 1.5 compatible but the products being released haven't been tested properly. At this point, most SHOULD be called J1.5 compatible BETA
You will find many more that are not J1.5 ready, even though the claim is that they are.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but I'll take a shot at it.
In time, it will be obsolete like any other program. Developers ARE going towards the development of 1.5 components and will discontinue the 1.0.X. Personally I think it's too bad since I find J1.5 runs WAY too slow. For larger sites I think that J1.5 needs to be run on dedicated servers and on personal sites, well it really doesn't matter because not many people visit them, and speed is not THAT important.
Don't get me wrong, I think J1.5 has a GREAT control panel, a lot more user friendly for those that are new to Joomla but for performance, I'd go with 1.0.x any day. perhaps in a few months, J1.5 will stabilize, more developers will be creating components and they will eventually come with J1.5.18 and speed will be fixed.
Until then, I'm sticking with my 1967 Chevy

I don`t know what to say about speed but my favorite site (from all, made by me) runs faster(the pages are loading faster, front end and backend) ,or seems 2 me, with J1.5 than with J1.x. I migrated the content from 1.0.x to 1.5 2 weeks ago. Maybe it seems to me.
Anyway J1.5 is more ergonomic than J1.0.x, the only "defect" are the missing extensions.
