Advance Joomla 1.5 Native Search Plugin for Fireboard by Miniola!


I needed a Search Plugin for Firebaord for Joomla 1.5 and couldn't find any so I had to make this one. With this plugin your site visitors can search your forum from Joomla Built in Search Function. This is an Advance version with built in Custom Search Results functionality plus you have many options in the plugin backend to adjust your results as you desire.

Requirements

* It is Joomla 1.5 Native, you should have Joomla 1.5.3 or above
* Fireboard Forum 1.04 Stable
* This plugin will not work on Joomla 1.0.15 (For Joomla 1.0.15 There is a different version)

The Miniola! Website is Still a Work in Progress so some stuff might not work. If you have any problem just let me know. Oh..! I forgot you will need to login to the site to download the plugin.

Well Dave actually it does search the description field. When you select any of the options to search categories. Or maybe I didn't understand what you want to achieve. Like do you want to have an option to search only the description and not the title of categories? or not the description just the category titles to be searched. Please elaborate on this and may be I can guide you on that.
And later if possible we can add something like this in the next version.

I guess I didn't lurk beyond the opening response!

If there is a way to turn ON the search of description as a default option, I guess it would solve the problem that I admit I don't know if it exists or not (that people will WANT to search the description by default).

Ok Dave I would add something to show that Description is Searched as Default in the configuration maybe a tooltip or some type of information in the configuration.
Hopefully you will see it in the next version.

Very True Indeed!

Well there is a plus point these things make you think otherwise. And help you see the The End-User's perspective. Sometimes when making something you totally forget about the user who will use it.

This is only point of vision, but ...
If I was you, I would go for separate search plugins for:
- Topic titles
- Topic contents (i.e. the posts)
- Forums (i.e. their titles)
- Forum descriptions
- Forum headers
- FB Announcements

Maybe I miss something, but these are the basics.

You would ask why a separate plugin for each?
- This will allow adding different search areas in the "advanced" Joomla search
- This will allow the admins to select what exactly to be searched, without adding complex parameters.
- IMO, it will be easier to maintain and fix if something breaks.
