Target platform is J! 1.0.x and FB 1.0.3

PM me if you want to try out the new ObjectClarity discussbot before I post it for release.

I'll only send out a couple links.

Fabs, you might want to try this one!

What's new in this version?
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I've added the author name with proper email address based on the author of the Content article to bot created first-posts.
It also updates the FB Category with last-postId and number of threads and posts so that in the Categories view it displays properly.

The really big change is the switch to using a cross reference table instead of matching on the subject text.
The bot will create the table if it doesn't exist and all bot managed threads will be added to the table as required.

There's another big one that allows you to view debug info on the front end. I got a lot of questions about why this and why that, the debug info is intended to explain the decisions about when to display what and why certain things may or may not be displayed.

From the typical user's perspective there's not much visible difference but there's a lot of good stuff there for the owners of sites that use it.

Ok, its out there. The 1.0.4 version of the objectclarity discussbot. It does all the same stuff as the 1.0.3 version with the addition of:

*************************************************
Legend:

* -> Security Fix
# -> Bug Fix
+ -> Addition
^ -> Change
- -> Removed
! -> Note

---------------- 1.0.4 Stable -- [05-Dec-2007] ------------------------
! *** It does not yet support J! 1.5 ***
+ Creates and maintains a cross reference table - subject matching is for little girls with pony tails.
+ Populates the proper name and email address for first-posts to a new thread.
+ Updates the FB category with last post info. (last_post_id and last_post_time)
+ Option to show debug info in the front end. Should help everyone figure out the options.
+ Added option to specify user to own new posts - falls back to content author.
+ Added a Russian language file that was sent to me some time ago.
+ Added Smilies to the left or right of the QuickPost form. Uses FB Smilies.
+ Added numbers to each of the select list parameters so people can refer to them easier.
+ Added permissions handling to match that used in Fireboard.
E.g. Moderators can post to locked forums/threads
Honours the FB setting Re: Can Public post to forum/thread
# Set the parent (same as the ThreadId) on every post as it was causing posts to be displayed twice in the Category view.
# Fixed up the Copy Content to First Post option as it would fail with quotes in the content.
# Reams of other stuff that I don't remember 'cause it's been in the works for months.
*************************************************

Thanks to all who tested and provided feedback.

iosoft, fabs, sawndiddle and more.

Get the 1.0.4 version here:
www.objectclarity.com/index.php?option=c...func=select&id=2

To install it over an existing bot, first take a backup of your system, files and database. Then simply unzip it and upload the contents of the file to your /mambots/content directory overwriting your current version. This will preserve your parameter settings for existing parameters. New options will assume reasonable defaults.
New installations are done as usual with the Joomla mambot installer.

-Cheers,
Mark
