Theresident.net - new Fireboard Forum is awesome 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Just thought I would post some Fireboard love here. I just moved my Forum over to my server using Fireboard on my new Joomla-powered site, www.theresident.net

The Resident is an online countercultural video show that I've had for years, but I've never hosted my own Forums. Very exciting.

Just thought I'd share and invite other people with Fireboard over to check it out - I had it highly customized and it works great!!!

If you need any help with anything let me know, I have been around for quite some time.

Thanks! Yes some people say it loads slowly. It loads fast for others. If you have any ideas why it might be slow and how to fix it, feel free to email me from my Contact on the site. I've hired a lot of freelancers for lots of parts of the site, it's an ongoing collaboration.

Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks! It's pretty simplified but I'm big on transparent navigation.

The site loads fine for me today.

More than likely you are using Shared Hosting which probably 99% of Joomla users are doing as well unless you are a big wig like my buddies here at BOJ or Joomlapolis as well as some of the other really large sites with heavy traffics loads which are either using VPS or Dedicated Hosting.

The problem with shared hosting is most providers do not have the ability or have the ability but do not enforce bandwidth limits. You see this with providers who offer 500GB of Storage and 3000GB of Monthly Bandwidth... "Sarcasm" but these sites bost these high limits to lure in customers and more often times then not are successful. My suggestion if you want a high end site and feel you will be expanding its limits in the future is to invest in a VPS or Virtual Private Server. These are often shared by a fewer number of users than that of SHARED Hosting and often times have CPU Usage Limits, Memory Usage Limits as well as Traffic Limits. So instead of User A using 2.0Ghz of the CPU and 1024Mb of the Memory it is split equally amongst all of the users.

The cost of a VPS Server has dramatically decreased in the last 6 months to a year and now is affordable to most all users who have $25 a month or so to spend on this. The downfall of VPS is the High Storage Space is often times reduced from several hundred GB to only 10 - 80Gb and the Bandwidth from several thousand to maybe only 100 - 1000Gb monthly. In most cases this will suffice and most companies offer the ability to add bandwidth, storage space, CPU usage and Memory Usage.

Wow.. I hope I gave enough information.

I can help with other things if you need them, graphics, layout, functionality.

Thanks for the input, James!

That's completely educational to me. I've managed to cobble the site together but mainly am a video content maker, not a coder, so there is still a ton I don't know.

I would love to move to a dedicated server like you mentioned and would afford the 25/month, but the space is an issue, being a video show. I can easily upload 50-100MBs a week or more, and that adds up quickly. I think I'm someplace around 50 gigs as it is.

If you have any leads come your way about ones with more space, please do let me know!

Sidenote: Remove the extra period from the url

I really enjoy your site. Well done, and the ads/boxes feels that its part of the site. And not just some images clued in here and there.

Thanks man. It's still a work in progress.

I'm planning on making the video player larger to the new 480x360 standard, but I don't know if all the older videos in the 320x240 videos will look like crap that way. That and the fact that I'll need to figure out how to widen the site's overall template, which is terrifying to me. Though I'm sure it's one small line of code somewhere. Still, those columns in seyret make me nervous in a resize!
