Re:UTF-8 Problem 9 Months, 1 Week ago
I had the same problem with my conversion. Using a text editor, after exporting the sql table for the messages text, I did a find and replace for all the html tags and imported this back into the sql.

I also had challenges with attachments. Since I had only 50+ messages with attachments, this was fixed by me copying the attachments to the com_fireboard upload folder then renaming them based on the new file name they are supposed to be.

Otherwise, it was a good conversion.

UPDATE!
Now I have to go through upgrading it to 1.0.4 At leat I got this far!

WHoOPS wish I read your post 2 minutes ago. I'm trying to run the import on FB 1.0.4 (running SMF 1.1.4 and J!1.0.12). Good thing I am testing on localhost...

edit have gotten to the final stage of importing attachments. so far the only error messages I've seen are

  • line 327, undefined $SKYPE variable

  • importing attachments does not take into account that I may be on a localhost Windows server, so I get paths such as "E:xampphtdocs/forum/attachments/71_IMAGE_00155_Medium...."

Well I finally got my SMF converted to Fb 1.0.4, but the attachments didn't seem to work. I will have to research more into what bwkeyboardman did...

I did the conversion from SMF to FB following the instructions in this thread...every thing seems to have worked except that I no longer have attachments in my posts. (post structures are a little bit messed up but I can live with that). I really need to get my attachments back though! I followed up by upgrading from 1.0.1 to 1.0.4 hoping that might fix it but it didn't obviously...I am in desperate need of help! Can anyone help in getting the attachments to work please!!!

So, make sure you're using SMF 1.1.1 if you are going to try this converter!

Where I can find update files from 1.1RC3 to 1.1.1?

Nevermind, found them and run conversion based with this posts instructions. Basically all seemed to go well, but there are numerous message splits and loads of posts are missing including all from one category. But will try to sort them by hand and live with those errors. Also for some reason all linefeeds where changed to br-tags during conversion so now all posts are quite messy

I can't tell you any more other then I had only one forum to make changes in. I only had to deal with jpgs and gifs. I found the files located in smf, including the references to their file names. I then copied them to the correct folder in com_fireboard and renamed each jpg/gif file.

Hope this helps.

Re:GUIDE-Making the SMF to Fireboard conversion work 8 Months, 1 Week ago
I have followed the lead on the message below - the first post on this thread to port my SMF forums to fireboard. Everything ran as it should but nothing was moved over to fireboard.

Question: How will the threads come over from the SMF database - the document does not indicate where the userid and pasword needs to be entered for the SMF database?

Question: I installed Joomla 1.0.x and then fireboard 1.0.1 as indicated (without activating the database) but the users and theads need to come over from the SMF database but I did not specify SMF info, link, location, database in the php...

Unless I am missing a major component - I cant seem to understand how the threads, users, categories and posts from SMF will move over to fireboard!

Could someone please tell me where I am going wrong?

Appreciate any assistance.

Kia

Component - Fireboard 1.01-build1
com_smftofb
and importantly - smf_2_fb_v2.txt

So to begin...

## If you have fireboard installed now get rid of it, delete all the fireboard folders on your server in /components and /administrator/components if there are any left behind, go into your db and delete the relevant fireboard entries too so either mos_fb_ or jos_fb_ depending if you were once a mambo user that converted to joomla! ##

Install the fireboard component in the usual way, once it is installed leave it * Do not click on create database *

Unzip the com_smftofb.zip folder and then go into your server backend and to the /components directory, in here you need to upload the unzipped com_smftofb folder and contents.
