I am getting the black box error when I try and add a user to the restricted forum.

I read about the change to rpc.php only problem is that I cannot for the life of me find the code to change in it!

I installed this hack
Restricted_forums_v1 for FB 1.0.4

and am running FB 1.0.4 and joomla 1.0.12

Could it be I need to update joomla? I tried to do it the other day and had untold troubles so I restored back to 1.0.12

Cheers

Here are some notes I took after piling through this topic, and yes the author could have just updated the original (1st) post, but he probably became just as frustrated with this mish-mash forum software as the rest of us;

Step 1: Backup your Fireboard files
Step 2: Upload the files into the correct directories (follow the archive directory structure) from
Joomla root)
Step 3: Modify or create a forum via Components >> Fireboard >> Forum Administration
Step 4: Set the "Public Access Level" to the lowest level of private use (must be at least
"Registered." This shows it as a "private forum" so will allow you to assign users to it)
Step 5: Go to "Restricted Forums" from the Fireboard Cpanel or the menu
Step 6: Click on the forum you wish to assign users to
Step 7: Click "Add Users"
Step 8: Start typing the users name you want to add, as you see it in the list Click it (it will show

up highlighted in the list box)
Step 9: Click Save

That's it the forum is now private. If you do not add users to the forum then it reverts back to
standard fireboard functionality, if you add only a single user to the forum then only that user will
see the forum. NOTE: even if you are a Super Administrator, unless you are listed as a user of the
private forum then you will not see it in the front end, that includes you the person doing this.

I know that sounds odd, but the reasoning is that it is easier to exclude all than allow for super
administrators, and in my system I have several super admins but they still don't have access to all.
This means you also have 100% control over exactly who can access the forum rather than being group
based.

You should be mindful Fireboard is not ready for prime-time. I realize you, just as I was, are desperate for a unified log-in but hacking together this mess (Fireboard) will ultimately cause more problems when (if) the developers get off their advertising agency philosophy and fix this thing. After playing with this Frankenstein mess I gladly went ran back to SMF.

I still laugh each time I log-in here, and no matter from where, I get directed back to the front-end, forcing me to see the "Featured Template." Ever been to an IKEA? You have to walk a maze (the entire store) before finding the exit!

Just thought I would let you know I found the problem for me. In the rpc file it refers to jos_users whereas my database has the prefix mos_ as I converted form mambo a while ago and just kept the database or whatever I did...

Everything else is working fine so far!

I am experiencing a strange behaviour:
When I add a User to the allowed users he can't see the restricted forum.
After I make him a super administrator he can see the forum. After making him a normal registered user again he still can see the forum.
Has anyone a similar problem?

I'm using Joomla 1.5.3 and Fireboard 1.0.4 and I installed the fireboard_private_v1_5_for_J1_5.zip

Hi - you're not crazy!

I've followed all of the above instructions.

It requires running a sql change to a table that contains user information.

If you scroll up and follow two steps ... a patch that you down load and then the sql query from the sql area of your website. If you don't have access ask your host provider to help you.

good luck

if I did it - I am sure you can cause I'm an old geezer...who's never coded anything since COBOL II ....

Hi there. I thought id install the multiple image upload hack and that works fine when you are logged in. when you are not I get this error from the fb_permissions.php file.

Im unsure what I should do I would love to keep both hacks as they are both amazing.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function fb_is_private_has_access() in /home/.kee/website/newsite.scb.com/components/com_fireboard/sources/fb_permissions.php on line 90

EDIT: I found out I will need to merge the fireboard.php file.

RESOLVED: Changed $attachimage = mosGetParam($_FILES['attachimage'], 'name', '';

to

$attachimage0 = mosGetParam($_FILES['attachimage0'], 'name', '';
