Things to consider before 1.0.3 release... 1 Year, 2 Months ago  
As everyone knows, 1.0.3 is just around the corner. Here are some suggestions before you get ready to take the dive.

  • Backup your system. All of it. (You're doing that on a regular basis anyway, right? )

  • Notify your members of possible downtime. You never know what problems to expect.

  • Setup a local sever for testing such as JSAS ( jsas.joomlasolutions.com/ ) or a LAMP install ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAMP_(software_bundle) ) Install configure it with your current site and database. Then you can do a dry test run without running the risk of messing up your live site.

  • Did I mention backup?

...Then back up AGAIN after the install.

You never know when you might wish you had that one backup that would save you a lot of headaches.

So, again, back up! Both the SQL and the file structure!

Also, read the upgrade instructions before you get started. Know what to expect. I've seen many people try to "wing it" on software issues then get totally lost for no logical reason other than not having read the manual.

Hmm sorry if this is a silly question..i get the backup SQL part..but what did you mean with file structure?
