Large Forum Hosting Advice with Fireboard 1 Year ago
Hi, i was wandering if some of you might give me advice on hosting for a large forum and maybe discuss some recommended places to obtain the hosting or whether VPS or Dedicated is adequate.

Theoretical Situation 1: Adequate Hosting recommendations for a Joomla Fireboard Community with 10,000 regular users/posters.

Theoretical Situation 2: Adequate Hosting recommendations for a Joomla Fireboard Community with 25,000 regular users/posters.

Theoretical Situation 3: Adequate Hosting recommendations for a Joomla Fireboard Community with 50,000 regualar posters.

Your knowledge is much appreciated as I'm looking to move up from shared to VPS or even Dedicated hosting for a new project including Joomla/Yootheme/Fireboard/CB. Its hard to Google info for large forum hosting so i thought this might be a good place to get some advice, tips, experiences, etc. Thanks for the discussion in advance!!

well, in the joomla.org forum i was told that fireboard isn't the way to go for a large forum because it has a "large overhead" and that I should stick to either phpbb3 or smf. Anyone agree or disagree with this?

I'm not sure of the answer to this. However I am curious too as to what the largest Fireboard forum in existence is. Has anyone ever gone over 500,000 messages on a Fireboard install?

I just went over to Joomlapolis (Community Builder Makers) and looked at their forum which is running on the old TSMF Joomlaboard...that probably has close to 40,000+ posts. Seems to be holding up just fine. Is there an easy upgrade path if I ever outgrow Fireboard and have a need for some independant App like SMF, vBulletin, PhpBB or something of the sort?

I would really like to use fireboard for a large forum community but a review over at j.org was saying that it has a "large overhead" that it show 4-500 queries in debug mode, 800 with sef enabled. I'm mostly worried about efficiency of the board. The convenience and features is definitely there but I'm mainly wandering about performance.
