TOPIC: Fireboard is out of sync with Joomla Userlevels

Fireboard is out of sync with Joomla Userlevels 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I'm running J1.0.13, CB1.1 and FB1.0.4.

I don't know if I have setup something wrong in FB, but my intention was to create a forum, where Registered user had access to a FB-cat (Cat1) and Authors to the same FB-cat (Cat2) and their own FB-cat. The categories is off course published.

I have setup the following:
Cat1:
- PublicAcc to All Registered Users
- AdminAcc to Manager

Cat2:
- PublicAcc to Authors
- AdminAcc to Manager

When users selfregister through Joomla (and C, they can't see any categories in FB. If I upgrade them to Author, they still can't see any categories. If I upgrade them to Manager, they can see them all, but if I degrade them again to Registered, they can still see all categories. Not only can they see them, they can also add, edit and the other stuff a Manager can do.

What am I doing wrong? I can't find any documentation regarding setting up a forum that helped me.

BR,
Kelvin

JOOMLA 1.0.XX access levels are iffy at best and FireBoard has none. Do not even try to use the 2 to set access levels. Install something like GroupJive or JACL.

I'm having a hard time understand why FB doesn't have any group level controls that works. When I look into the database, I can see that all or at least most of the informations needed is there, so it should be "peanuts" to get level access working.

I have now tried JaclPlus and it's very unstable. When I update users to a Jacl level, FB sometimes follow and othertimes do nothing. So is there anyone that can help setting up a forum access level system based on the users level i Joomla/Jacl or whatever as long as it works?

Hello everyone.

I am having a similar problem to the original post. I would like to add a view to forum categories based on Joomla user levels. I see the latest post here was 3 weeks ago. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problemm. Created a forum for the public, then 3 for the clans we give shelter to.

Public acces (front end) level is "everybody" and is as expected to be seen and entered by everyone that comes in.

Now for the clan part, i have set the acces level to "author" Gave everybody the author status that i want that forum to be vissible for. Guess what, exept for the public part nothing is vissible. So what is going on, I am sure that I am not making any mistakes. It lookes like Joomla can communicate with CB but not with fireboard forums (or the other way around)

Can anybody shine his light on this please

Thnx Soul (www.1st-ecc.eu)

Sorry, but installing other software does not solve a problem that more of the users have. I like Fireboard, I like CB and Joomla. CB however is defenitly not the problemm because i started using that because of the problem between Fireboard and the access levels that were set in Joomla and hoped to solve the problem.

FireBoard HAS no user level access and Joomla's does not work sucessfully as you have learned. So if installing another piece of software, like many other have had to do to get group access running on FB then you will have to wait until the devs decide to add it.

Thank you very much for the response.
The thing that confused me is that in the Forum management area, there is a place for you to set user access level and child groups to Joomla's standard levels. If this is not a usable capability, then why have it in the configuration?

Oh well, I will look into the other solutions that were suggested. GroupJive looked promising, but it is spotty at best. It may be my ignorance, but it seems like you can only access hidden forums there from the GroupJive component.

I love Fireboard in that it seamlessly works in my site, I just wish this access level function was available out of box. Here's to hoping that the devs can add this soon to an already great product.

Thanks
