Blank posts do not get posted (1.5 RC2) (1 viewing) (1) Guest
TOPIC: Blank posts do not get posted (1.5 RC2)
#60178
Blank posts do not get posted (1.5 RC2) 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Just installed Fireboard for the first time and must say I'm quite impressed with the ease of set up and the look and feel without changing too much of the template.

Anyway, one bug I have found is that if you submit with the message text blank, e.g. only subject line completed, the message is not actually posted but no error message is given either.

I think blank messages should be allowed, so that subjects of e.g. "Blah, blah (nm)" can be used.

Cheers

you're not talking about the same I'm afraid.

Kubbah, you ahve a problem, I already asked you for details to see if we can adress it, mike is talking about a feature he would like. Right now, blank messages are not allowed.

Mike, something's wrongw with your site, althought is not allowed, an error message is rendered telling you to go back.

Ok I've just checked again and I do get an error message, although it's not a very obvious one and is inconsistent with the message you get if you do not complete subject for example. If you don't complete a subject you get an immediate alert, whereas if you don't complete the message text the form gets submitted and a fairly indiscreet error message is displayed, i.e. no alert, and you are forced to hit back thereby losing any other information you may have entered (e.g. subject, topic icon, image/file uploads).

Ideally I think that both no subject and no message text should get the same immediate alert error.

Well, seems you're working with IE?

My hung is that FB devs didn't thought about people not using a gecko browser when you hit back on these, your message is still there

But you do have a point, it could be more like old ipb versions, where a screen with a copuy button was shown for you to keep your text intact

ofc you can, but IE does not keep messages after you hit back button , so if you forget to add a subject (when creating threads, when answering is automatically done), you will have to rewrite...

Err, no actually. This happens in Firefox and IE.

I think you misread me slightly. If you forget to add a subject it works fine, giving an alert message. Only if you forget to add the message text does it post the form and give you a later error message, meaning you have to start again.

True, then I can't see what's the big deal... rewriting a subject line? of about.. let's say 130 characters?

It's not so much the rewrite as the inconsistent behaviour compared to what happens when missing out a subject line. The alert message is a more friendly interaction with the user than the not very obvious error message and the need to go back.

Still, I certainly agree that this is hardly the highest priority
