fxstein is great! Had my problem pinned down in about five minutes. It would have taken me years. Also fixed some other booboos I did while continually testing stuff.

Hey! This is not fair! Hhehehe. I cant get it to install. Same blank old page I'm getting! Installed straight from the url but dont work. I am afraid this is on my end

Maybe one of the two things fx told me will help you. First, disable error logging and clean out server error logs if applicable in your root/logs folder.

Second, disable FTP in Joomla Global Config.

Apparently, both of these caused a severe server slowdown on my end. Hopefully this helps you too.

Have just tried to install 1.0.5RC1 on Joomla 1.5.6 and get exactly the same problem.

Have increased server timeout to 120 secs.

Have installed from URL (joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/83...b722_2008-09-16.zip.

No errors reported at any point during installation

Have saved configuration and loaded sample data.

Still same problem - blank page.

Have uninstalled and re-installed a couple of times while attempting to fix problem. I checked the com_fireboard directories after uninstall and couldn't find any. have I missed something?

See townsite.lincolnwebenterprises.co.uk/index.php and select Forum from top menu.

Any ideas?

I fear there is definitely something wrong with your install. It is very slow to load any page. If it runs that slow, chances are something is wrong with the underlying Joomla setup. If you give me access to your backend I can take a look. PM me details if that is ok.

2.) After that yours is a permissions thing. 90% of all Joomla directories are marked as Unwriteable in

You need to get the permissions of your system fixed or you won't be able to install ANY components for Joomla

Sorry but I can't fix that for you. Might want to check on the Joomla site how to modify permissions of your install

Disabling the FTP was the magic bullet for me. Nothing worked for me until that tidbit. After that I installed from the URL and now I am in business. Thanks for all the support, you guys are great!

thank you for your help, I'll try to fix it in somehow, otherwise, maybe the best way is changing the free hosting...

By the way,
it is the disadvantage of free hosting. They disable particular function. FTP via Joomla is one of them. Often you have also to "wipe" out some lines in the config file to avoid error messages due to setting in the server.
