@sholloway:

1.) Your site is very slow. You have a ton of components installed. I suggest you revisit the amount of plugins you want to run or consider better faster hosting for your site if you want to run all of these. Every component requires extra memory and processing. Having 20 some components installed will cost your performance.

2.) In addition your Joomla install is severly impacted. 80-90% of all Joomla directories are marked as Unwriteable in
>> Help >> System Info >> Directory Permissions

You need to get the permissions of your system fixed or you will get unpredictable behavior from your site. If Joomla highlights a problem in RED it does so because there is a reason for that.

There might be other issues as well, but without a fully functioning Joomla install, all other settings and components will be impacted.

Sorry but I can't fix that for you. Might want to check on the Joomla site how to modify permissions of your install

Guys,

I have inspected and fixed 10 or more sites in the past 48h. None of the them hit any FireBoard 1.0.5 install bug or errors, but all of them has more or less severe Joomla setup issues. Unfortunately I really don't have to bandwith and time to fixe every Joomla site out there. I recommend you read up on Joomla itself and makes sure your Joomla install is clean.

If you run 1.5.x I recommend to disable the ftp feature as it can lead to very unpredictable behavior. In cases where your ftp accout is different form the apache account, it will also lead to additional permission problems.

ALWAYS check the systems info tab (menu) on the main screen of your Joomla admin screen. If it highlights ANYTHING in RED you have a problem to address. Ignoring it will only lead to 'mysterious' problems.

Last but not least: You guys need to better secure your sites. I am somehwat shocked by the amount of sites that use admin as the main user and have no other protection in place for the administration backend. I recommend you readup on Joomla Security.
The first thing is to change the admin user to a different name. Call it whatever you like, anything is better than default admin, you just invite hackers to try out common password. In addition you should really password secure the administration folder with a different password. That way Hackers don't even get to see the backend login to begin with.

Please don't send me any more private requests to inspect and fix individual Joomla installs. As I said I really don't have the bandwidth and time.

I hope that some of the examples provided in this thread will help others to fix their own installs.

Have a great day!

What doe what mean? You really need to be more specific if you want any help. Open ended questions like that, with little to no info are impossible to answer.

Simply followed all directions written above. I installed using option 3 which is install from URL and got that (Unknown archived type) error. I can not install fireboard, myBlog, JUser or any other component. I have given up on this and just currently working straight to the live server Thanks for trying to help. Others got their problems solved but mine. its ok though

You know, it would be nice to mention before hand that on your install you cannot install any components. Clearly your Joomla install is impacted. I recommend you get some generic Joomla help to make your server work. Once you fix your Joomla issues, the FB install will be very easy.

Landish, did you check that no 'com_fireboard' component is installed either in the components or the administrator/components folder of your Joomla installation?

I had the same problem, tried to install from a folder at my own server, and had the blank page until I went to those two folders and deleted the com_fireboard folders, which were there from the unpacking from previous failed (blank page) installations. (I unzipped the .zip at a Temp folder, in the same drive where the Joomla installation is. Then used the second option to Install Plugins (Install from a local folder).

Good luck.

I have the same problem, after a fresh install which too awhile, but was apparently fully successful. Removed, tried the upload fromURL (my config choices were still saved).
Works fine in the backend.

Re:Blank page after attempting to install 1 Week, 2 Days ago
I was getting mad trying to install FB 1.5RC2 at my Siteground account, but finally did it. I followed some of the tips given here (change htaccess, disable ftp layer, upload and unpack package and install from directory) but nothing seemed to work, always got blank page... until I decided to try it from a different browser. It may sound crazy, but I was being unable to install FB from Firefox 3, and when I tried from Opera 9.62 it did it in no more than 5 seconds .

Does it make any sense?
