create forums for only registered users? 3 Months, 1 Week ago

Sorr if this is basic. I have a clean install of fireboard and I created a few new categories. The menu for the forum is only accessible to registered users of the site. When I select "all registered users" for public access level, only logging in with admin will show the categories. If a "registered" user on the joomla site goes to the forum, they don't see categories.
Am I thinking about this the wrong way? should I have access set to everybody, even if I only want registered users using the forum? If it works this way with the menu of fireboard being restricted, what are the security downsides.
I am new to this, sorry if this is so basic.
Thanks
Ray

I think it was a simple fix. I went back to the forum administrator, selected all registered users, and then selected "yes" on the child groups. That seemed to fix it for me. It seems strange, and I have not confirmed this, but for some reason I had luck with making it public first, and then switching it to all registered users/yes. I was so tired by the time I got to this, it may have been my mind playing tricks on me.
I will play around more today and maybe someone will see this and explain what is probably a dumb observation. It probably works PERFECT when you know how to use it.
I just got off to a bad start, because everyone that was testing for me all had admin privileges. I thought we were off and running...until we got the first call. My bad planning.
