Is it possible to have several membergroups within a forum? - so that members can be assigned to one group or another on the basis of profile information such as age or gender? For example an under-18's group would be assigned limited permissions for the forum, such as being denied access to and Adult membergroup.

Not possible out of the box. You have to use something like GroupJive or apply a user hack.

The new version may have the control you need but I see another offering called Agora that might suit you.

Do you know if GroupJive is now compatible with Joomla 1.5? Likewise, do you know of something similar that would work?
