TOPIC: Setup a forum for registered users only
#57108
Setup a forum for registered users only 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have installed fireboard without problems.
However i have a problem with a forum that does not show.
I made a category called Main Forum, with public access, everyone.
Then i made a forum fish id with public access everyone.
I made another forum called Nudi Id and made this public access registered.

I've set the access to the forum in the fireboard settings to everyone.

This works but when a user logs in the forum nudi id does not appear.

please try following setting:
public access: all registered
include child groups: no

Because you are the admin and you are not belong to the group "registered", you don't have access to it.

or you can use the following setting:
public access: registered
include child groups: no
admin access: super administrator
include child groups: no

so only the groups "registered" and "super administrator" have access to it

or:
public access: rgistered
include child groups: no
admin access: manager
include child groups: yes

so only the groups "registered", "manager", "adminstrator" and "super administrator" have access to it

Thx for the reply but this does not work
I tried every settings combination but this forum stays hidden until i switch it everybody.

I tried with 2 accounts
1 who is publisher and the other which is just a plain registered user.
Any ideas

Joomla access levels do not work correctly with Fireboard. There was a user provided hack that enabled this on a limited basis or you can use a third party extension like GroupJive but I have seen problems with both.

WTF? I hope the previous poster is missing something.

I am seeing the exactly same problem as that listed by the original poster. In addition I am seeing the following:
If a forum is configured for Registered Users, I logon as a test registered user. I cannot see the forum. I change the access to Everybody and I am able to see the forum as the test registered user. I change the access back to Registered Users. I am still able to see the forum as the test registered user and public users are no longer able to see it. So this trick will allow a registered user to access a form restricted to registered users. The only problem is I have to do this on an account by account basis.

If FireBoard does not integrate with Joomla's access control system how the hell can they claim to support Joomla? How is one supposed to setup a forum with some public forums and some restricted forums? Find another forums solution?

Does user sync between Fireboard and Joomla have any connection to this?

ACL is promised in 2.0. And no. I am not missing anything. Do a search on this topic and you will see what I mean. It was promised since the beginning but never materialized. Joomla access levels do not integrate with FireBoard correctly if at all. You can get very limited success manipulating Joomlas pathetic ACL but it is not true control like you would come to expect from a forum.
GroupJive, JACL or custom hacking of code are your options.

got a solution I think - in configeration make the forum accesable only to registered users then when creating a forum make the forums all - public access - it has solved my problem!

This is an excellent solution that allows you to use Joomla ACLs (which are pathetic!):
