Too much bug for a stable release 10 Months ago
Hi,

You don't think that this version have too much bug in order to be a stable version?
Maybe could be better downgrade it at RC....
Cheers

I will blame the TEST-Department, not the Dev-Team.

Stable doesn't mean totally bug free. It means that people can use it in a daily basis without FB bringing their site down and also upgrading will not cost them much. As much as I've monitored, there are not fatal bugs. There are bugs here and there like any other software which with the next release we will cover them. There are bugs that can not be solved with this structure (like new! bug) which they will stay till next major release. please stop discouraging people/devs and if you have a problem help to improve it. I can code but if poeple do not test and report it in a constructive way; and not like it doesnt work; it is useless.

Well the software is free so why are we blaming anyone? I am extremely greatful of this software and feel it's up to all of us to contribute and submit bug reports as we find them.

You could also learn to fix the bugs and post your fixes too. Isn't open source nice.

I wrote this post to help this community and to support this product, for sure not to discouraging people/devs.
In my opinion is better wait more time and have a "good" stable version.
People who don't know well html, php or sql if have problems change component instead try to solve it.

Just to clarify my post

I appreciate your clarification. If it is aiming to help, then you are welcome to write more. Some people like to complain only. we have put a lot of time (more than 3 month) to bring a dead project to life with a reasonable performance that worth working with. I am using the same software (same release) on a very famous website with more than 400k posts (10k posts everyday) and 5000 online users. There are problems but it is working fine.

The reason we went stable was because in this state of the code it is the most stable we can get before starting a new 1.5 version. The rest can be only small bug fixes and people were to restless to remove the beta tag and start using it. We have tested it with a very high load and use and it is ok. not perfect but ok. We had used SMF bridges, modified it and optimized it and believe me we were so desperate. Bridges are not a good solution as for us. takes too much time to prepare, install, arrange and with the next release all the cycle again. So we decided to go with something that we know (SMF, VB is just far). FB is Joomla native means that it will just sit there inside Joomla. It has bugs but they are not fatal, annoying maybe. Overall it is cheaper to live with bugs than to invest $s/hour to fix an individual e.g. SMF bridge which is way above a normal user knowledge.

So it is up to people to use a stable release with some bugs or go to other bridges and all we want from you is to help us find the bugs, help others so we have time to code, and promote the software so more people/devs will be interested in this software. the more the better service you get.

My apologies for the long post.

I appreciate your work!
Fireboard is the best forum for Joomla there is. I tried all of them.

Ok, it needs a bit of bug hunting, but who cares.
Finally a good forum for my sites.

a happy user

Good post danialt!
It is really tough to do your job.
You work on stuff voluntarily, and share your work to the community for free. When things slowed down, people would complain why not meeting the deadline, where is the stable release?? When the stable release is out, then others say things like it's too buggy, why not wait longer to get a more stable version.... this and that..

I've been reading posts on this site for quite some time and I'm also using this great component on my site. I admire the fact that you're able to take up all these naggings without losing your composure. I wish I have that kind of capacity. Keep up the good work!

to others, typically blaming does not get your problems solved as efficiently as encouraging (especially when you're not paying anything). Try to put your comments in an nice/constructive way, that would really help the Open Source community.
