A quick question:

Has the "Private forum" hack made into the this release? If so I will wait.
Or is this planned for Version 2 of fireboard? Or not planned at all.

Cheers,

Hi First of all thanks for a really impressive forum architecture. I have been using it now for several weeks and my users really enjoy it compared with earlier versions.

Two questions. I noticed that when I post a long url link on a forum post it stretches the page to the extent where it even covered up my profile image. Could you incorporate a standard short link hack so that when one posts a long link it only shows it in part.

Secondly on one of my main forum topics members are only able to post a maximum of 69 topics. After that it simply does not allow new topics to be created. I don't know if this error is inherent in the current version of Fireboard or if it is simply a bug that has manifested on my site. www.fastingconnection.com

Also it would be great if you could get fireboard to work a bit faster as it takes 10 seconds to load on my site.

Thanks for the efforts I can't wait to install the update.

@DMF

What version of FB are you running and did you upgrade from a prior version?

Link shortening has been added to the latest build and will be part of 1.0.5

There is no limit of 69 anything in FireBoard. Something is wrong with your install. Please disable any other components and plugins - especially SEO or SEF components and try running your Joomla install without SEF settings turned on. Try to eliminate what is causing the problem.

As for speed: While FB is not the fastest component out there it can create pages in less than 1 sec on fairly large installs. Most of the time the load time is impacted by complex templates, other plugins and in many cases SEO tools. You might want to try turning things off, to see where the slowness is coming from.

Another thing you should look into is your site speed by analyzing it with YSlow. A plugin for Firebug on Firefox. Does a detailed analysis where you are spending your time when downloading a page.

Hope this helps!

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Rumor on the street is that the release date can be measured in days, not weeks?

Thanks for that FXSTEIN

Didn't expect an answer and I guess if we all stopped pestering you you would have completed it by now.

Anyhow a quick response to the last post.

I upgraded to Fireboard 1.3 from simpleboard. Reason is that 1.4 doesn't work on my Joomla version 1.14 However the only errors I get are the occasional e_time_shift

Stuff like that with underscore.

!0-15 second load time first time Fireboard is opened. Doubt this is due to SEO and SEF comps as I see from the board that it is a universal problem.

And the bug of not being able to post more than 69 post topics. But this only seems to affect one of my categories.

Not to worry as I am going to upgrade my site to latest joomla version 1.56 however I tried to install the nightly build beta fireboard 1.5 last night on a new joomla 1.56 site and it failed, but I did not copy the error messages sorry! If it is any help, it was in legacy mode.

Finally I woke up this morning hoping that in the new fireboard there will be the option for the superadmin to change the user details of a post. Currently in my version 1.3 it looks like the option is there, but it does not work.

This would be handy as there are times when superadmin has to copy and delete a post which is in the wrong category. Currently when I do this the copied post is pasted under my username as I cannot change the post user. Or I have to ask the user (author) to resubmit it themselves.

That would be a dream if you could do that, but perhaps you have done it??

Thanks again and I have a feeling you will have it completed by this weekend.

Glad to see that fireboard is alive and well. I'm currently using the component and am looking forward to the update!

Are the security/user permissions updated in this version at all? Security is a big concern for our site and it seems that security in past versions was based upon hiding/showing different forums for different users, rather than actually disallowing users to view the content inside based on what permissions the user had. So, for instance, if the user had a direct URL or link to a protected forum, they could not only read that thread, but access the whole forum through that thread. This applied to post subscriptions, latest post listings (in people's profiles or in recent discussions listings), etc. We've had to either disable these useful features or find ways to circumvent them so people never get a link to a post they shouldn't see.

Is 1.0.5 going to have stronger security measures for protected forums, or is that something being saved for 2.0?
