I had hoped RC2 would solve the issue of user names still showing (see www.bestofjoomla.com/component/option,co...w/catid,77/id,59655/) but I still have that issue
In the category listings the moderator is still shown by username not realname. See nbnm . eu.
Btw Discussbot also has an issue with this. When I post in the forum the realname is shown, but when I use Discussbot 108d to post the username is shown. I'll post about that in the Discussbot forum..
This has been fixed and is working. You just need to run Recount Category Statistics after switching from username to real name. All existing posts will get updated to the proper name display.

Hello,
I've just upgraded my forum from 1.0.5RC1 to 1.0.5RC2, and it's quite cool with new stuff and better functionnality.
However, I wonder if I am the only one who can't preview any message before posting. (since 1.0.5rc1). I use Firefox 3.
And also, I am still not able to delete my own posts.
One suggestion for message deletion, would be that the author of a post should always be able to delete his own posts, except in the case where all these conditions are met :
- The post is the first of a thread AND
- The thread contains more than a specified number of messages (the number can be specified in back end)
I think this could be a big and awaited improvement.
Thanks for all your work.
The preview bug is a regression. My appologies. I was too quick jumping at a fix that got posted to allow UNICODE previews. Applied it and missed the fact that it broke the regular reviews. I will have to back this out again.
As for deletes: This is new logic that is currently not planned for 1.0.5. We are only finishing up fixes and are trying to avoid new functionality at all cost as it just introduces new bugs. Sorry about that.
Hi fxStein, actually I managed to make it work for my configuration, using only one character.
In the .js file used for the jQuery preview, "index2.php" is used, and I fixed it by using the root directory of my site, so I changed it to "/index2.php". It worked, but I don't know if it will work for every site configuration.

I have tested this, & looks good, but I still WON'T be upgrading to this version yet, as their is no Private forum, something we use a lot on our site. (Like a Staff Room area)
Will this feature be in 2.0? as I won't upgrade the site to J1.5 till it is.
If it is, will I have to upgrade to 1.05 (Loose the Private forum) then upgrade to 2.0, then the private forum comes back? I can't be the only one that uses this feature that is already in 1.04, I think it is a shame it has been dropped for the upgrade.
Saying that, it does look good & it has come leaps and bounds, just I won't be leaping till this feature is back in.
BTW, will there be a facility in 2.0 for a Poll in Fireboard (sorry if this has been asked already)
There are private forums, just not custom private ones, they are provate based on user ranks in joomla
Yes, in 2.0, if you see the screencast, forums will have ranks independent of joomla, and their permits will be fully customizable
Yes, you will ahve to pass throught FB1.0.5 to update to FB2.0.
Yes there will be a poll feature, it will be a plugin, made by iosoft
I agree. I have my moderators in a private forum as well. Has been possible with several version of FireBoard. Only if you need multiple private forums for multiple different groups of users do you need the hack.
That is what I use it for, for my forum staff, the moderators, a shame I can't see a way of doing this, I have been looking at some of the plugins for Joomla (currently 1.0.15) but noting that fits the bill yet. Looks like a lengthy wait.
If I didn't have the Moderators private forum, then I'll upgrade right now, as it looks good.

As easy as asign your mods the author level in joomla

There are problems with the merge-split functions, besides being horrible to use, it gives error afterwards.
Example, I have a thread on my forums, someone posts an offtopic, and I split it, and move to another section. I also manually have to merge with the next reply, also splitted from the original thread.
Both messages stayed in some kind of ghost message on original message.
But the problem comes when, on the newly created thread, everytime you click on 'last post' it only shows the original message, and with the title of the original thread, not the replies
Contact me fxstein for example, as the thread is now in private section in my site, I would like to help (not coding, you know ) on thinking in a better way for these to work.
Is my only claim (not wishlist) to date with 1.0.5
Regards

I would normally agree with you there, at least on paper Sounds simple. But I have assigned Author to a user, logged him of/on, refreshed all the tricks to refresh the cache on the PC. Even accessed the test site from a different PC. Not working, the Staff Area disappears, Even the Super Admin can't see this. The only way I can get anyone to see it, is if I change it to Registered, but that is defeating the object of having the private forum. Looks like a wait then

Hi,
if anyone is interested, I have fixed the message preview issue, (that was showing only a progress bar).
Also, I have enabled post deletion from the author of a post. The author can also delete his own thread as soon as the number of replies in this thread doesn't exceed 100, for example.
I have one problem though, at some places, quotes ( " ' " ) become escaped when viewed in the forum ( " \' " ). I mainly happens in category titles. Is there any way to fix it ?
Also, in my messages, to show an antislash, I have to type a double antislash, which can be confusing for users.
Thanks
