Will the converter work only to import into a new FB installation, or would I be able to import into an existing FB? In other words, I want to amalgamate 2 forums, one is SMF and one is FB.

Hi Guys

I'll bet this has been answered before, so I'm sorry for wasting anyone's time, but I have tried looking and don't see all my questions answered.

My situation is I have smf installed in the same database as my joomla installation,
I have it configured with SMF 1.1 Joomla Bridge 1.1.7 all works well, I would however like to use fireboard.

MY question is how to proceed with the changeover to Fireboard
a) Do I need to wait until the official converter is released
b) Should I migrate to JB first
c) do I need to try split the db
d) I have my tables prefixed smf_ do I need to change this
e) Is this all as daunting as it sounds
plus a million other silly questions from the not 'very wise group' of which I am a fully paid member
as I said this probably has been answered before but Its difficult to piece it all together could someone please advise on how to proceed
Many many ThanX

Does anyone know the answer to this?

I just attempted to run the SMF to FB converter, and it got tripped up by the use of apostrophies in user's signatures - which made my conversion impossible.

danialt, I assume this kind of thing will be fixed in the upcoming release of the official converter?

Any specific date we can look for it to be released?

Thanks for your efforts!

Gosh we're a demanding bunch aren't we?

Or rather....we're all looking at Fireboard and what I see so far I think it superb. For me, my first look at it was when I wanted to use the PageCache tool to stop so many server hits, but it doesn't work with the Orstio bridge of SMF. Then as I looked more, I really liked what I see and now can't wait.

I've had lots of problems with SMF and Community Builder...mainly that they don't quite gel the way they should...so people find they have to log in and out again to get to their CB profiles. Also not all data synchs, so "First time online: info often doesn't end up in user accounts in Joomla/CB.

Anyway...to add to the list of issues (or what I'd like)...my user information is the most accurate in the SMF forum. Some synchronisation between that and Joomla user accounts has failed (the SMF community hasn't been able to help) so I'm hoping that when I convert from SMF to BF, I can say "please take the user info in SMF and use it as the most accurate user info on my site"...hopefully resolving the glitches. Or maybe some way of recongnising the blending of data?

How's that for a big ask!

Re:SMF to FireBoard 1 Year, 8 Months ago
The way I do it is like this:

It gets the users email from SMF -> matches with Joomla -> get user Id if they match -> If not, match the username -> If not, add -1 for userid -> move the posts for this new UserID

ps. Why I do this? because somehow there are lot of duplicates in my SMF (because of username change) and I had used moslock to get users for Joomla. So Joomla one is the safe one.

Re:SMF to FireBoard 1 Year, 8 Months ago
That confuses me a little....with SMF there is a separate user table to Joomla...will that be the case with FB? I'm hoping it's no....true integration....one user table for everything or am I not understanding how components work?

As I mentioned though, my SMF user information is a bit better than Joomla user info...because registration is via the forum. And even though there is a bridge synch, there are errors...for example....
www.nzmac.com/profile/task,userProfile/user,1314/

See the "Member since" info is missing. It's actually in the SMF tables but for some reason, the synch never pulls this across into jos_users. Even with help from one of the Simple Machines regulars who had a script that should sort it, it didn't....so the info is slightly disjointed....but my SMF info is the most crucial.

Sorry...not trying to turn this into an SMF issue, but I'm hoping important SMF user data isn't lost and can possibly replace regular user info that might be missing...or is that too hopeful? I'm probably also saying that badly.

No FB doesnt have a seperate user pool. But My reference point is Joomla (as I used it to register), If you want to use SMF as your user pool, you have to modify my script a bit.
