Re:phpBB and php script time limits 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
i have seen messages on phpbb forum about scripts timing out when processing large amounts of data. should be a way round this with a little knowledge or hard work searching for answers.

i think fireboard should make a category specifically for converters so that people dont need to search through so many messages to find outdated links.

I'm still pretty new at this. But I had to remove the '' from the names like B's Car - In the database it sits as B''s Car... And it looks like the '' means something else in sql land. Hope that helps someone.

Re:phpBB 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Problem with that is that I have hundreds of thousands of records to deal with. When you multiply the different tables it is millions of fields. Also I'm doing this on a test server so I'm going to have to do everything a second time on a live, production server once I get things to work properly. I will also have time constraints as I will need to stop a live and very active site. Extract the latest database which is around 50gb. Import that data then run the conversions. Best case scenario I'm thinking 5+ hours of the site being offline while I scramble to get these things done and re-launch the site with new data on new server.

So anything like dealing with special characters would have to be done in the script. Even then it will probably take hours to execute. I ran the phpbb to smf (successfully) on this same database and it took a couple of hours to complete.

Is it possible to convert phpbb to fireboard? I have a small forum on my current site, only 50 users and not all that many posts. Should I just start fresh on the new site, or can the conversion be done?

Hi,

I created a little python script to convert PM messages from phpbb to Jim.

Although probably not stricitly within the realm of fireboard, it is of use when converting from phpbb to fireboard + jim

See attached

File Attachment:
File Name: phpbb2jim.gz
File Size: 867

But im sorry, i don't undersatnd how to use python scripts. On may web account python scripts can't be used and so i tried on xampp with python add on. But afte install the apache didn't work ( file python.conf couldn't be found in apache/extra/ folder).

Moguul,

You could the python script on a local box with python against a remote database, but you'll need to ensure that the target database allows remote access.

It should also be easy enough to convert to php but I know nothing of php.

Hi everyone. Um...I'm getting this error when trying to port over my phpbb 2.0.22. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm a complete novice when it comes to coding or anything, so it would help a bunch. Thank you.
