Interesting, I used the files which you compiled and posted here. (No criticism implied).

I haven't had a chance yet to check the code which gomjabbar highlighted, but if your version works (and I'm assuming you are using the same files you posted) - it would imply a different problem.

Did you find any of the other problems I mentioned with the split function? I would suggest you try it on a random topic with (say) 4 or 5 posts and then try to split the 3rd or 4th message out from the middle. I couldn't do this. Each time I tried, I was presented only with the first reply to the topic starter, (i.e. the 2nd message), and then got some additional curious effects after the split was done. (e.g. sticky).

I have this mod (merge and split) in a beta forum, the forum was migred from smf.

Everything I tested work fine.
But as you suggested, I will try to split the 3rd message ou the 4th (I think I already done this, but can't remember)
So, I will do more tests, and let you knows 'bout issue.

Many thanks for looking into this. I'm using the vanilla flavoured fb_1.04 with the default rhuk_milkyway template.

I 'could' post some screen shots, but as there are several screens involved I'm not sure they would all fit on this board! On the other hand you can go to my site www.save-redhill-aerodrome.org and register. As an ordinary user you will see the split and merge buttons on any post in the forum - which is not right.

What I'm trying to do is move message 9 from PALEFLIER into the "Hanger Talk" category. But even when logged in as a moderator I can't seem to select that message using the split function.

p.s. Sorry for my French - I'm English

If your merge and split functions are inside the same if statement as the move function, and if regular users can still see them, this should mean that they see the move function also. If they do, then something else is wrong with your code. If they don't see the move icon, then your merge and split are definitely *outside* the if statement.

You can't split off and move a message to another forum at the same time. You can split it first and then use the move function.

First, my grats for the idea and the great work up to here.

I tested split|merge on joomla .13 and FB 1.0.4 and found those topics, which result in the conclusion, not to use the function in my productive site:

- Splitting results in layout malfunctions (Dorona Brown), in the topics overview the new/splitted topic has no table borders.

- Too much options for junior-moderators, the two "Go"-buttons are confusing, localisation-options incomplete.

- You merge topics and use the option to leave a ghost-entry in the topic-overview. After that, you are able to merge other posts to the ghost-entry. Now the ghost-entry has an invalid link and the merged post is lost. I didn't found an option to get this ghost-entry merged posts back, yet.

I am really looking forward to this function to be included in a stable of FB sometime, but actually it is not fitting to production livesites, I think.

I'll keep an eye at this
