I believe what you are referring to is just the simple layout of categories and subcategories which can be changed in the forum admin. The look and colors are just tweaking the forum.css files. You can always start by getting the forum.css off this site here: www.bestofjoomla.com/components/com_fire...ate/numinu/forum.css[/quote]

Heh - trust me, I've tried that already. LOL

No - what I mean is on *this* particular forum the categories list is laid out much like the regular or "default" templates (with the "new posts", "posted by", etc...) side by side in a tabled-like format. But in the general release, the category title, posts, and last post notification are all under each other.

It's too bad it's *really* late here right now or else I'd set up some screenshots, but I got a kid that's going to get me up in about 4-5 hours. I'll set it up tomorrow and demonstrate what I mean, but hopefully I've described it a little bit better.

Basically, just look at the categories tab on THIS site ( www.bestofjoomla.com/component/option,co...mid,38/func,listcat/ )and see how everything is laid out, then do the same on a forum set up with the public release (like this one taken right from this thread: neparounders.info/forum/?func=listcat ). See how the category lists are different?

The way it's set up HERE is the effect I'm trying to go after, and after 10 hours of searching I'm coming up blank and hestitantly contemplating modifying one of the default templates just so the categories get laid out properly. I'd hate to do it, cause I LOVE how Numinu is set up and has the tabbed options, but....

hehe nice of you to refer to my site. If it wasnt 1:30 am I would work on that for ya, but time for bed. Can't code when tired. Maybe someone from the forum admins can send ya their list_cat.php file from this site. I will work on it in the morning for ya. Personally I like the cleaner look. But I am also a former user of vbulletin and vbadvance. The clean look is what i was after in joomla to begin with.

LOL - it MUST be late. I didn't even realize I was referencing your site. :-D

I appreciate you offering to take the time to see what you can do - it means a lot, not only to me but I am sure to a lot of other people looking at this thread too.

I like the "cleaner look" as well, but for what I have in mind in using this template I'm of the mind that I want the "best of both worlds" - if that makes any sense. I'm a REAL fan of how this particular template is set up on this site and I would love to be able to emulate it in a project I am working on to promote safer neighborhoods. For the amount of sections it's going to have, the way *this* forum is laid out is ideal and that's what I'm hoping to go after.

But as they say - if it happens, it happens. LOL I'll keep hacking at it too and hopefully come up with something, but your offer is going to go a long way to help meet a self-imposed deadline (like I'll come close to nailing it at the rate I'm going... LOL).

Thanks again. Looking forward to what you might come up with. Meanwhile I'll wait and see if I get lucky with one of the admins.

What does Numinu mean? I don't recall that being asked or answered anywhere.

From what I can remember, it's "Comanche language" which is being resurrected by younger mid-plains Native-Americans, especially around the Oklahoma area.

I tried doing a Google search for it, but aside from one obscure reference to the Comanche language (which *kind of* confirmed my recollection) it was pages and pages of BestOfJoomla references. LOL

Does that help?

Strange you happen to post this as I was researching it yesterday. I came across several references, one being "Comanche Language" and the others "The People" being Comanche as in the Comanche people. But if I'm not mistaken, from the days that this term was used, both meant the same thing.
An example of what I am talking about would be the: When we refer to the English or French People, we say the English or the French. Though we are talking about the people, we are referencing the language.

One other thing I was wondering - and if I missed it in one of these 30-plus pages PLEASE point me in the right direction (yep - I read, re-read, and read again this whole topic)...

In the public release of Numinu, the listcat.php page doesn't look ANYTHING like the one here - there's nothing that makes the categories listings look like the default style of FB template while keeping the tabbed functionality of Numinu...

How would one go about trying to do something like that?

I will be working on this this week. With my current Joomla templates, this is very easy but since the majority seem to be using either RT or Yoo templates, my fixes may not work for the majority. I will keep you posted. Should have something by midweek.

That was pretty much the conclusion I got when I did a quick search. I remembered the name from (of all things) high school social studies way back when (I'm going like 20 years ago now, and pretty much dating myself here), and tried to confirm my recollection.

Thanks for the validation. LOL The old brain *does* work.

So that makes it three of us that'll be working on it - you, me and papokergod... I'm going to be doing as much as I can this afternoon and evening, but it's going to be more of a hack job to be a "means to an end" than anything else. I don't use any of the RT or Yoo themes either (obviously, I create my own) so they're not an issue for me, but it's handy obviously to have fixes for those people that DO use them.

What I'll do is shoot over code through your profile here (I'm assuming you have an email address linked to your profile?) if/when I get it done so you can compare it with what you're working on (and do the same with papokergod) - with three heads working on it maybe we could really get something decent going.

How do I remove the "all discussions" tab from my forum tat uses the numinu template?

I am using the native permissions hack, but it still shows my private forums to all registered users. So the easiest thing for me would to just get rid of the "all discussions" page all together. Can someone please offer advice?

Hmm - that 'kind of' defeats the purpose of using the Numinu template since the tabs are part of the "appeal" of the template. It wouldn't be hard to emulate the overall layout using a modified version of one of the default templates.

BUT - if you're determined to use the Numinu template but eliminate the "All Discussions" tab, you could simply open the tab_list.php file and remove the following from it (lines 21, 22, and 23):

EDIT: I've tried 4 times to place the code that you would want to see here, but it refuses to let me do it - the forum keeps stalling and returning a script error (even in Firefox, which is odd). Suffice it to say in that file it's the first set of that you remove in those lines I described.

That should do what you want it to.

Another thing you might want to consider is setting a parameter so that only users with a certain access level will see the tab. This is a little more advanced, and I'd have to try and hack around a bit before I can give you some advice/info on that, but the quick-fix mentioned above should do the trick for you.
