Great Converter - One Mystery, and a question 1 Year ago
hello

On a site running Joomla 1.0.12 Stable with SMF latest version; bridge with Orstio's one. i ran the converter, following the modus operandi. I just had to rename some categories, removing some ' that couldn't be there for the job to be done . All messages, attachments, categories were imported without any errors everywhere, but in one categorie, displaying no messages, while the messages for the said catrgory are in the fireboard tables! I can't even figure out the difference between these non-displayed messages and the others, hence there are no differences. I get fuzzy on this mystery, maybe if someone has a start point, or something?

The question is I can't save almost any screens of fireboard admin, because of new fields in the code, missing in the database. Looking further to upgrade this database, shouldn't you, say, put the latest sql code for Fireboard stable in the converter, add the correct version headers, and rename the files?

Thanks for the great code, interface, and progress bars!

Bravo from France!

PS: Our Fireboard forum is OffLine right now, as some work has to be done. I can put it online if someone has an idea to solve the mystery!

Hi,
First of all thanks for the great guide.

I followed all the steps and all the data was migrated successfully but the replies and views are showing zeros (0) for all the topics.

Can you please tell me how to fix this??

I am using Joomla 1.5 RC3 with FB 1.0.3

Thanks

OK, I followed the instructions, got my smf database copied over to my joomla db, installed fireboard 1.01 build 1, put the smftofb code in components, and was able to open the page here: meadfest.org/index.php?option=com_smftofb

However, when I click on any of the buttons, nothing happens. It just sits there. I checked my error logs, and don't see any errors, so I'm stumped.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Running:

Joomla 1.013
SMF 1.1.4
Fireboard 1.01 Build 1

I have the same problem (with the same versions) and logging in as a Super Admin does not change it. When I press the "Import Categories" button, it just says "Please wait..." indefinitely.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I did step by step as shown on the guide and it worked like charm thanks. The only problem I have now is that Im unable to upgrade Fireboard to versión 1.03 Stable. When I run the Mysql querys of the upgrade supplied in the 1.03 zip it returns me SQL errors on some tables.

Does anyone have upgraded the board after the smf conversion?

thanks

Has nothing to do with the conversion. Check the stickies in the Upgrading forum.

I followed this step-by-step only to end up with a broken Fireboard. One of my categories (which originally had around 2,000 posts) did not have any and another category had too many posts. So, somehow, all of my posts are now mixed up together spread across the categories randomly. So, in the end, this method does not work and is not rock solid which was disappointing. I appreciate you putting together the guide, but this is yet another waste of time on my end...

UPDATE!

There is one VERY important thing left out of the guide: the version of SMF. I was using and older version (1.1 RC3) and when I upgraded my SMF to 1.1.1, it seems that the converter worked with limited problems. Yes, some of the replies were separated into their own posts but I can live with that.

So, make sure you're using SMF 1.1.1 if you are going to try this converter! And you have to use Fireboard 1.0.1 build with it too (not 1.0.3 or 1.0.4, it MUST be 1.0.1)

Now I have to go through upgrading it to 1.0.4 At leat I got this far!

UTF-8 Problem 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
First off, hats off to Leigh Godson (Bunglehaze) who turned what would have been a nightmare of a conversion into a not-very-difficult process.

One question I have - I made the mistake of converting my SMF tables to UTF-8 a few months back.

When I did the SMF>FB conversion all of the html tags and ampersand characters were not moved over correctly and now show up within the text.

The default database encoding is latin1_swedish_ci, but the SMF tables are UTF-8. Anyone know how to convert UTF-8 tables back to 'latin1_swedish_ci'?

Re:UTF-8 Problem 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
OK, I'm not 100% sure it's a UTF-8 problem anymore. I dumped the relevant tables, used iconv to move it all into Latin1, dropped the tables and then rebuilt them as Latin1 tables, but I still have the problem.

To whit, HTML entities are showing up in text, so instead of a break in the line I get 'br' in brackets, etc, as well as ampersand characters. I'd appreciate any guidance on this.
