Well this is very helpful and quite frankly rather rude. This is supposed to be a support forum. There are no easy to understand threads that describe how to upgrade to the latest version. If there were, there wouldn't be so many comments complaining about problems when they do upgrade. If you bothered to read my thread properly, I don't have as much knowledge about this as you, I'm not looking to someone to hold my hand, just to explain things a little easier than they have already been done on here.
Don't know how it can be any plainer. What part of the upgrade process is hanging you up? What part is confusing you? Is the language too "tech" for you? Have you even attempted an upgrade? There should be no fear in messing anything up if you perform the recommended backups prior to attempting the upgrade. Do you know how to backup your database/files?
Like has been stated. The manual and the MANY upgrade threads have dealt with almost every issue imaginable as it pertains to the upgrade process. I'll quote a fellow board member.

Hi grumblemarc,
fb's upgrading tutorials really work. If you follow their instructions step by step, you shouldn't have any problem at all. And if you upgrade from 1.0.3+, you simply copy the files across onto your server.
That's all.
Don't criticize. If you can be more specific with the help you require possibly someone can actually help. If you need to I have performed the upgrade/install for more than half a dozen board members and would be willing to do the same for you. Provided that you backup everything so that in the event something goes wrong you can restore your Fireboard install.

Hi
Another bug (well something that used to work in 1.0.3) is that urls with commas don't display properly. Joomla uses urls with comma's all over the shop! The URL's I have issues with are gallery2 urls thus:
www.ochils.com/component/option,com_gall...d,87/?g2_itemId=6552
Prob find that this works on this forum, just not on mine!!
EDIT: Yep, works here (is this forum on 104??) Here's a link to a thread on my own forum where the bit of the url after the comma is not getting hyperlinked properly:
www.ochils.com/component/option,com_fire...,261/Itemid,135/#259
This particular issue makes it pretty unusable for me cause my users are non tech - most don't understand bbcode, or know how to link using it (and nor are they likely to learn!!). I could live with the ever present vertical scroll bars next to each post, but not this one! Prob time for me to restore my db and head back to 1.0.3 for the time being. I'll stick 1.0.4 on a test site.
My main reason for upgrading was the fix for 'posts since last visit' issue. This appears still not to work correctly. i.e if I am logged into joomla and viewing my forum list (while logged in, and can see both public and private forums, hence fireboard *knows* that I am logged in!), then I click 'show posts since last visit', I get the usual message 'fireboard needs to re-establish your access rights....' clicking 'posts since last visit' again means that I see the posts since last visit. afaik this behaviour is identical to 1.0.3 --> 'posts since last visit' needs to be clicked twice to actually show the posts.

I downloaded the patch and opened it up, I had administrator, components and images folders which I extracted onto my hard drive. I then uploaded these three folders into the Joomla directory.
Now the next instructions just don't make sense to me. I'll quote them
Copy “components/com_fireboard/_fbfiles/” directory in the extracted package to “Joomla_Root/images/” directory and rename it to “fbfiles/” and ensure that it is writable (and also all its subdirectories). At the end you will have such a path: “Joomla_Root/images/fbfiles”.
The only place I can find fbfiles is in the images folder in the patch. I don't understand "components/com_fireboard/_fbfiles.

Hi
The fbfiles folder should be in your existing joomla installation under images/fbfiles these are the files that you need to overwrite.
If you access your site via www.mysite.com then the folder is likely somet like /home/mysite/public_html/images/fbfiles or /home/mysite/htdocs/images/fbfiles or /var/ www/images/htdocs - depends how your host configures stuff.
Where-ever you get your new 'fbfiles' from, the contents should end up in the folder above.

There were no fbfiles in my images folder. There are now, because I've just uploaded them from the patch

If all files have been moved to the server and are where they are supposed to be you need to run the appropriate SQL patches to bring FireBoard up to date. If you have problem running SQL install EasySQL and it should run the queries without issue.
If you have any further issues please refer to the following posts

Check the first post in this thread. There are fixes available for many of the new issues that have come up with the new release.
