Not sure if this is the correct place for this question....

Over on the SMF boards there is some discussion about FireBoard - Kindred (one of the SMF developers) has made a pretty bold statement regarding how many concurrent users FireBoard can handle... I'm very curious about this and would love to know a solid answer - can FireBoard handle 300-500 concurrent users or will it crash ??

actually, cferd, although he was wrong in indicating a huge difference in the TERMS, he was right in the overall sense...

registered users and users concurrently logged in are two completely different things.

One of the forums that I admin has 50,000+ users... and regularly has 300-500 concurrent log-ins. Fireboard would crash with that load...

I am very interested in how you came to the conclusion that FireBoard will crash with 300-500 concurrent log-ins. Did you actually test this using a shared hosting account such as go-daddy or 1&1 ? If this is true, Is there a reason why FireBoard can't fix this problem in a future release ? Does it have something to do with being part of joomla ?

Also, do you know if it will crash with 300 concurrent log-ins if the site were hosted on a dedicated server instead of a shared hosting account?

I am very curious about this because the site I plan to use with FireBoard will definitly be getting 100 or more concurrent log-ins on a regular basis with CB also..

Let me just make one comment on this: There are more and more people wanting to migrate off that 'other' forum onto a more integrated solution like Fireboard.
Some folks make bold statements just to scare people off. I will not go into arguing this, its a waste of time of he said - she said.

Fireboard is our 1-click solution.

Danialt (and team) promised improvements with 1.0.4. Subsequently, there are VAST improvements with 1.0.4. The next promise is a complete rebuild with clean and fast coding. I have complete faith in the BOJ team to pull through with the promise. No doubt, along the way there will be tons of plugins released left and right that will make fireboard a formidable contender against the so called "more powerful" forums.

SMF is great, the PHPBB3 bridge looks even better. But one thing that Fireboard can say that others can't (and will never say) is that it is 100% focused on Joomla.

I tested fireboard on a shared server and it had visibly slowed with 20 users online at once; I never went any further, and I never said that they might not make it better. However, from my experience, fireboard has some in-elegantly designed code which will eventually use up the available resources.

They may improve it.. they may correct the code... but I still would not switch out of SMF for my forum needs. (besides, Mambo is doing some really nice things with the 4.6 and 4.7 series)

I handle up to 30 without any impact to my site speed. It's also much faster now with 1.0.4.

Someone tested with 100 or more c users?

I'll let you know how i go with my board. 100-150 was not a challenge with VB. I hope this port to FB is worth it.

My board gets up into the 50s at peak (not really big just yet). On top bots like google are fetching 1500-3000 pages a day each. Can't even tell. Page load times have been a very consistent ~1s for the past 8 weeks, with CPU usage running at about 5%.
Having said that, some other plug ins will kill you. I had a discuss mambot installed. Pages load times went through the roof. Had to take it off again. Too many php bugs and issues with it and no time to fix them.

Hi Guys. I just finished convrting a site for a client from IPB (Invision) to FB. There are nearly 8,000 members and over 65,000 posts. The client has an average of 3-400 users at any given time on his forum.

I'll update you on Monday/Tuesday (if not before then) as to how it goes and if there is any truths as to what FB can or can't handle.
