I fully understand and appreciate what you guys are doing and wanted to start by saying thanks and Kudos! Even if I find I can't find time to follow through with the rest of this post, I assure you that you have a true follower here!
I've got experience on the server side of a few commercial forum packages. Since hearing about Fireboard, I've become an avid supporter of it. I believe in this project because I believe Joomla needs a stable, native forum package.
I have solid experience in beta testing comm programs from my days as part of the Mustang Software support team (WIN Server, Wildcat BBS, Qmodem, etc) back in the day, before the Internet became popular and caused them to sell their assets to Santronics. I don't know whether anyone here has heard of them. They had the #1 DOS-based BBS package for a while, in close competition with PCBoard.
These days I'm involved with a few web sites, run a simple private site for my family under Joomla and am using a licensed version of ClexusPM on it along with Community Builder. I also took the plunge and put Fireboard 1.0.1 beta on there, knowing full well there could be issues with an update to 1.0.2.
That said, when I have time, I can step in and help in these areas:
- Experienced Joomla/Joomlaboard/CB/... users, you can help us on the forums. More experienced ones, you are welcome to be our mods
I don't feel experienced enough to be an official mod, but I'll peruse and help where I can when I can.
- "Dig and find" person, beta testers **most wanted**, don't forget to write them down time to time. Hunt bugs, develope ideas and if possible chop in with little code snippets to fix the problems
This is possible. We have a low-volume site and I may be able to convince my relatives to help test. They like 1.0.1. I'd have to ask if they're interested then we'll take it from there. I'm not sure I have the time to set up a second site specifically for testing, but if this is manageable, and they want to go for it, I'll be happy to do what I can to help make Fireboard (and Clexus open source when you get to that, danialt) the best they can be!
