Fireboard Feature Comparison with other Forums. 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I put together a table as a comparison of FireBoard to OTHER bulletin board solutions out there. This is mainly a 2-fold response 1. for those that do not do research PRIOR to installing or converting other solutions over to FireBoard and come away disappointed because they assumed/were expecting the same features as those found in more robust forum solutions and 2. to negate those COMPLAINTS that stem from those assumptions.

This is by no means a COMPLETE listing of features by any means. It is probably not a perfectly ACCURATE listing either. Just a guide to help users make better decisions when it comes to choosing a forum solution. Any errors in this table may come from plain oversight so please notify me in this thread and I'll make the necessary changes.

The link to the Comparison Chart is here.

If I can figure it out I might get this into the WIKI.

Ironside/Ben Dover said I was supposed to be an expert!! That\'s funny! I don\'t remember getting certified to be a FireBoard expert.

Thank much. Now to get to some FB documentation since our doc team seems to be AWOL/MIA.

Like I said "It is probably not a perfectly ACCURATE listing either". I'll change this when I get the chance.

If I look hard enough, I'm sure I'll find a spelling mistake.
And we paid you for this?

I put this together in the span of half an hour. It's probably missing a LOT of information in the FB column.

@grumble: Shouldn't the FB column be the one you know the most about, and therefore the most accurate?? *gasp*

@snill: The reason he made is, as he clearly stated in the first post:

Because it can't be said better: I put together a table as a comparison of FireBoard to OTHER bulletin board solutions out there.

I myself fell into that exact category and was one (of many) who got on Grumble's nerves asking about the ACL (forum permissions). When I got into Joomla (this past December) I quickly found FB. Was still new to the whole scene (still am I suppose) and made some assumptions about both FB as well as Joomla (no acl there either!) I will say, unless I missed it, Grumble there is one line you need to add to your chart that I highly recommend. "Integrated solution for Joomla".. FB is the only one there that you can answer yes to. Not the 'the other guys' can't be made to work with Joomla, but FB is seamless and easy to get running. That's why I chose it, even now, after trying some of the others and their required bridging software, despite my serious need for an ACL (for members).. Someday maybe FB will get there - Till then there's GroupJive, which isn't a perfect solution, but it works (uses FB for those who don't know to allow you to create an ACL). But yea, the chart is an excellent idea and hopefully it'll get alot of hits.. Should add the chart to our sig blocks
