Which forum converts the easiest? 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I made the mistake of installing SMF and converted there from e107. Whilst this all works ok, the compatibility of SMF and Joomla have too many restrictions and a non native forum just is not going to work for me in the long run.

I am a bit peeved that I chose SMF because going forward it will be a nightmare if I ever want to move away due to the Password hashing in SMF.

I am therefore going to convert out of SMF whilst my forums are still quite young and into an alternative like PhpBB and then look at in the future coming online with Joo!BB or Fireboard when they have the requirements I need.

Though I guess I want to know which forums have the most successful conversions, including users so i can make my conversion in the future a lot more simplistic.

Not SMF. I think PHPBB SEEMS to be the easiest from reading all the commotion in the Coverters category.

Yeah that is what I was thinking.

I am looking at re-writing the authentication module to check whether the standard Joomla! login auth works, if not try the SHA1 salted SMF password. If the SHA1 password works, then update the password in the database to be the J! hashed password instead, eventually the passwords should all be updated as the users login. Should be a simple and easy mod and a good little addition to the Joomla family to get people off of SMF
