Okay anyone know if firemessage will be for joomla 1.0.x, 1.5 or both? I'm really psyched to do my "wanna be webmaster upload" thing on that one... maybe I'll post a question on how to load components..

I think this all started when someone asked for an OPINION on what Fireboard template worked best with a specific RocketTheme template and one of the Mods/Admins/Devs around here mistook that for a request for free template work.

As with all good flame wars, it escalated in a crazy fashion. I've been happy to watch from the sidelines and toss the occasional log on the fire. This is better than watching the late movie with a cold one and some chips! Best of all, I can see where BOTH parties are coming from...

GM got all huffy about a perceived freebie request, and got all self-righteous about how nobody but him in this thread is a real web-master, and how nobody contributes around here, but him. As he does in most other threads around here in response to innocent questions. He says he's not gonna be 'round these parts, no more... Can't say I'm crying. You, others, 'round these parts, are far less condescending, and much more agreeable. Got do a thread by thread comparison. Most of the time, his curt, short responses, amount to nothing of any use, as his first reply in this thread is a perfect illustration. Although I wouldn't have used the same vernacular, jmattos has made a fair, and sound assessment of GMs overall demeanor 'round these parts. 90% of his responses in this thread were utterly without relation to the topic at hand, yet he still fanned the flames? Que bono? Nobody. Not today. Bye GM, hope it's not just a winter vacation. An after thought. People give what they get. Nobody should lie passively while being treated the way he treats people. Take this thread as change request, perhaps. Who moderates the moderators 'round these parts?

As is the nature of forums, or any public discussion, there is BOUND to be some disagreement. DEFINITELY some will become more heated than others as was the case here. But let us keep the disagreement to those directly involved in it shall we? Everyones perception of others is what it is and no 2 viewpoints will match. Everyone VIEWING the dispute ALSO will perceive what they want to perceive.

GM was most definitely NOT a personable individual but I have observed him help others when no one else would step up to do so, including most of us here. To try and dismiss that is wrong in my opinion. Was he burnt out? Almost definitely. Was his personality a bit on the abrupt side. Absolutely! But NO ONE can take away the fact that he is/was an asset to this community. I will enjoy coming back to these forums after the span of time GM spent here to see which among you is still here. Not many of us I can almost certainly guarantee. This is NOT a closed community. All kinds of diverse personalities make up it's user base. For you to say "Good riddance" so easily speaks volumes about you and your level of tolerance.

What I observed in all of this, with all of the hurt feelings and emotion taken out of it, was that GM suggested the template thread which was INITIALLY refused as a solution then later it was given a second look. He suggested (rather harshly) that someone create a template of their own, instead of waiting for a recommendation, and in the end that is exactly what happened. So in the end you did EXACTLY what he suggested you do! Ironic isn't it?

I observed some heated exchanges with all parties involved making valid points. I DID NOT get that GM was implying anyone was asking for a freebie. HE stated that the link he provided has all the available templates and if ONE WAS NOT FOUND THERE a template would have to be made. I did not recall anyone say that they checked out the templates and did not find one to their liking. Instead the response was pretty much "I wasn't looking for the template repository. I was looking for someone to recommend a template FROM the template repository."

After that the name calling started.

So there is blame to be placed at the feet of all parties involved. That would INCLUDE all those ALSO guilty of flame fanning as evidenced by this thread being ONCE AGAIN taken off topic.

So all of you need to put this behind you and start behaving like adults.

I think no one got that I was joking when I posted the thread with the list of all the templates. I was making fun of how useless of a reply that was. The fact that he posted it twice, made of go from useless, to him being a dick. We were looking for opinions. Not a list of every damn template ever made for fireboard. I would say, "hey, at least he was trying to help." but no. He knew that was just a dismisive post, and then he quickly grew to "dick" status. I would have been fine if no one even replied to my question. I would have figured something out. But, come on, that dude was an ass. Someoe nicer will fill his place as the guy that thinks he runs shit around here.
