I thought I was persona non grata here.
It would be nice if you ask the OWNER of the site it's hosted on, that being ME, permission to use it before coming along and ripping it off. As you can see I volunteered this for the WIKI a LONG time ago and got NO RESPONSE from the devs.
Now this is being used as a comparison of my OWN Joomla forum component AGORA.
Do not copy this in part or in whole with my permission.
Wowzer's, he's still got it..
Alrighty.. First off, When you said:
Regardless, I no longer maintain it nor to I plan on updating it. If you want a COMPLETE listing of the various forums features available it is up to YOU to do your OWN research. I'm pretty sure any and everyone got the assumption that you are inferring by up to YOU to do your OWN research that if someone wanted to take and further the list, so be it. But YOU were not going to be active in it anymore.
Second, no where did you state this, and you'll note I DID give you the credit for creating it (GM is you bud, GrumbleMarc...., NOT GAMEMASTER, or General Motors..). And that was just in my mentioning that you made it, not that I was making a list. So, no need for capitalized OWNER and ME, I already clearly stated it was you, and from what you wrote before, you wanted nothing else to do with it and anyone else was more than welcome to do their own research and make (it) an updated list.
Third, and more ironic.. and I quote:
Do not copy this in part or in whole with my permission.. Okay. Thanks. I will NOT copy this in whole or in part WITH your permission.... Egg on face? Yes. Exaggerated post by you once again (you know I love ya GM, despite our apparent personalities)? Yes. Persona non grata? I've told you several times GM over many a forum thread as well as PM's. You are the most valuable resource FB has. I still cannot believe you are not directly involved in the programming/development/distribution of this. You are certainly the #1 man for support with it, and countless times I thank you.
I meant no ill will in my comment about him or someone running with what you had and updating it. From the bottom of my heart, whether you care or not, I truly THOUGHT that's what you meant up there by 'the if you want a complete...' comment! And I ALMOST did that, but in the starting up my site, new to Joomla, new to FB (which of course is what brought me here), I just plain didn't have the free time to install a local copy of Joomla to ,ess around with all the optional forum packages out there and analyze them. Plus, like you said, the dev's didn't seem to care about it, as the topic lie there dead on the table.
Can't we all just get along...?
**NOTE** Previously I mentioned cutting/pasting GM's findings into a wiki where it could be updated and kept current. This was based on a misunderstanding of what he had said. Under no circumstance should you do that. Ask him. As a result of this thread's recent posts however, know that you just might get a 'no' from him, so why not set out on your own, do a fresh, new start with all the latest versions yourself. Post the wiki link in this thread and those of us that have ANYthing to contribute (maybe him, maybe me, if the phpbb3 category is not filled in completely) will be able to do just so. I'm sure between the masses out there running FB, we could pull together each with at least ONE other forum package they've looked at, and create something pretty compelling.

I don't think he was directing that at YOU but more as a response to MindTooth there that just came along out of nowhere and stated "If you have the time. I would really love for you to accompany to transfer this into the BOJ wiki. A really nice feature to add to the wiki.".

Hey guys, please keep out of trouble, would you?
@mtxrooster:
I think he made a typo, meaning "without" permission, which based on the fact that he has done it, he has the right to ask so.
@MindTooth
I understand what you mean. I think it would be a nice addon too. But we don't have the resources to do it ourselves. If someone comes along, he is welcome. I don't see it as an urgent task, as we already have a huge user base, which we should support first. so a current feature's documentation is more needed than comparison to other forums.
cheers and stay in peace

I concur. A proper documentation would be more needed then a comparison. My bad

link is dead, I know it's a bit inacurate, but I'd still like to check it out.
Can u blame him, I'm surprised it wasn't down the day he posted.. Clearly he wants others to do their own research and not borrow his. Kinda a no-brainer..
Regarding the efforts being put on documentation instead of a chart.. I had a huge post typed up that I lost, so this is gonna be real short, and sweet. The thing is, I disagree. Most of your userbase is already running FB. There is documentation/instructions. The fact that it works so seemless with Joomla, the key feature you toot, in fact, means if you can install Joomla, you can install FB.
Instead, I'd rather see those man-hours put into an update. Many a month have passed and we're still on 1.0.4. Several "hacks" have been shared here, in many cases to bring much-sought-after features that you chose not to incorporate INTO it for you. Stand proud, make your product look better and more appealing to your userbase and potential users. Add that code, modify/tweak it if you can even make it better, and release something, 1.0.5 even.. Like I said in my lost post, I understand native function with Joomla was job #1, the most important thing, and that in order to meet that goal, some other features needed to be put on hold. We all get that. But I'll tell ya, many of these omitted features are things we, your userbase take for granted because 'the other guys' forum packages have been offering them for well over 7 years. For me, I chose FB because of it's integratedness (if that's a word..). But I'll also admit, when I DID look at it (and another which shall go nameless), I didn't notice the things like it can't resize pics, no video support, no "fancy" editor (WYSIWYG or otherwise), heck - For 7 years of CMS packages every forum package I've used has had those things built-in. Had a comparison chart existed where I could see, oooh, okay, it's not going to be implemented, or it's not in yet, but they want to add it, or whatever.. That would make a huge impact. Don't get me wrong, I truly, from the bottom of my heart appreciate what you and your team have done. Really. But really, do you realize you are the first mod/staff to post to any of the q's I've had, in addition, to any of the questions I've searched for. I had a big thing typed up about GrumbleMarc - Him and I might have typing personality clashes or something, but I truly hold him in the highest regard and he's one of the best people, in ANY community I'm in (and they are several) that I've ever seen. For the first several months of my getting FB, and asking questions / seeking help, I swear to you - I thought he was the lead programmer, the helpdesk/support / and the admin of the site all in one package. I literally fell outta my chair (no joke, sadly) when he told me no, he was just like me or any other user here, JUST A USER OF FB. You REALLY owe a debt a gratitude to him for all his hard work here.
So what about it? Is there any hope of you scooping up all the wonderful "hacks" posted here on your forums, and actually officially adding them to your code and releasing something a little more fresh than 1.0.4? Or is the fact that you haven't taken any of this code, given to you and used it a sign that you truly do NOT have any intention of offering these kinds of features with FB? I ask, because countlessly (more frequently than admins post here asking fellow users) I get asked, "why isn't my pic being resized", "why doesn't the video embedding work 'just' right, how can I get a better editor in here so my posts stick out, or look better than ascii-BBS style texts..'. Again, not disrespecting, just wondering.. Some of these things have been handled by others and posted here, absolutely no reason not to update your application

@mtxrooster
Thank you for taking time and posting here.
I have to say that I can not agree with your sayings, and I have a feeling that you are not following the FireBoard developement. We have developed 1.0.5 already and to ensure the good quality has passed it through extensive testing process, with around 11 releases and final RC1 yesterday. It has been tested/built over 698 times, with over 300 bug fixes. The progress meanwhile has been reported constantly to the forums. Just search RC1.
I really don't want to continue the heroic stories. We appreciate our users and their contributions, as we did for him too. He is/will be always welcome to be around here and we are completely fine with him working on another forum.
To test your options you can simply install those and try it locally, and if you are willing, publish the same chart. At then end, you will select what you are more comfortable based on your experience, support, coding style, UI, ... and not a chart anyway.
Good luck.
