Not sure if this will help but I had the same problem trying to upload a template.

I fixed it by ftp'ing to my host and transfering the complete "com_fireboard" folder to a temp folder on my HD. I then added my the files i wanted to uplosd to the folder in the template directory then right clicked on "com_fireboard" and changed the attributes of all files and folders to read.

Next i deleted the complete "com_fireboard" folder from my host and uploaded the modified "com_fireboard" folder complete with new files to my host.

I logged into FireBoard admin and my files were there and useable.

This workaround should work for the "avatar" folder, you may not need to transfer the whole "com_fireboard" folder. It's a lot quicker and easier than doing one file at a time.

Anyway Good Luck..........

What the hell, I cant change any permissions of any fireboard files, I cant even fuggin delete them. I have loved fireboard till now.

I altered some files and want to upload over the existing, cant even do that.. what a pain in the ass.

Nothing to do with FB. Your server (if remote) has "ownership" of them. JoomlaXplorer MIGHT be able to CHMOD them. If not contact your host. If it's on a local machine then that's something YOU need take care of.

I will go bug them.

Any idea why this happened? why only Fireboard and Community builder I see doing this? I have 7 other sites with this host for the past 4 years, never have they changed anything like this or care to do so.

I don't think they changed anything. I have had this problem on client sites in teh past.

All fixed up, they looked at my entire site and said it was wierd that only those 2 directories were in lala land. It must have something to do with the installer I guess.

Yeah, I've had problems where files that I install inside joomla (using the install component/module/mambot) are not editable with ftp or the plesk back-end our host uses. Joomla uses the http user, and for some reason I don't have those access rights.
JoomlaXplorer successfully bypasses this and gives me access to the files. It's a bit combersome at times, but it works.
