I saw the scroll bars on at least one post in the thread Nigel linked:

Using IE7 here. Tried changing my browser font sizes and that didn't seem to make any difference--it neither fixed this particular post nor did it introduce the problem in other posts.

Hi

If I hit ctrl+ a couple of times in FF while viewing a page that has the scroll bars next to the messages then the scroll bars dissapear. Return to the standard sizes and the scroll bars re-appear.

Definitely some kind of issue here, even if it is not repeatable by all. Once 1.0.4 gets installed out there some more I guess the reason behind it will come to light.

If I reformat a post that has the scroll bars (for instance removing some unessesary line returns (some people don't seem to have heard of word-wrap!) then the scroll bar will often dissapear for that post.

I decided to upgrade from the first fire board to the latest one but after trying to fathom out the instructions on how to that, I don't think I'm going to bother. Are there any instructions that are actually easy to follow? its all very well people who know what they are doing writing instructions for everyone, but if you are fairly limited with knowledge in the first place, it is virtually impossible to follow the instructions that have been written. I wish people who write these instructions would assume that we nothing and write them down so that they can be understood a little easier

Hi

The above does the trick (it seems) to remove some of the text that appears instead of less_than or greater_than etc symbols in forum posts after the upgrade to V1.0.4

I dont have phpmyadmin installed, feeding the file into the mysql plugin that comes with webmin seems to do the trick though. As does logging into mysql at the console with mysql --password and then using 'source /temp/htmlfix.sql'.

Unfortunately it is not the reason for the vertical scroll bars that appear next to some posts after the upgrade.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the scrollbar issue can be solved with some simple CSS.

Agreed, just need to be able to reproduce it on my side.

Thx for the offer. I have to find a way to reproduce this issue here in my environment. I have over a dozen different vhosts with different versions of Joomla and FB running. Need to get one to show me the problem and a fix is not a problem...
