Sorry guys, but I have not been getting involved since you were working on it. However (simbus82)if you have 2091 topics with a 0 parent ID then your table structure is NOT fine. This is why you are in this endless loop.
If a topic has a 0 parent ID, then it belongs to no category as there are no categories with an ID of 0. The first parent would be ID 1.

Somewhere along the way, you have lost a portion of your table/data structure.

I'll go to my tables and see if there is anyway to tie these posts back to their original owners. Also would you have a backup of your tables and data for the forum prior to your upgrade and was it a FB forum or was it a conversion?

MY Bad. I was not thinking right.
When you upgraded from fb 1.01 was the count good?
Also can you make a backup of your forum tables #__fb_ALL OF THEM and save as a zip. Tables structure as well data and PM them to me.
I am going to load them on a test server and see if there is something I can figure out with them.

simbus, I have been looking through your data for almost an hour now and things don't seem right.
Here is what I am seeing. The majority of your posts have a the same parent id as the post id. It's like they are all individual posts with no replies.
I will be out of town tomorrow but will get back to this late tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep you posted as to what I figure out.

many thread are without other posts....i know! A lot of users write a post and this have no response...

..and before, when forum was phpbb2, the writing was public....so there are a lot of not registered user.

But after all these months ... Why the problem has come only now?

Do you meant parent==id or thread==id? In my database (~1400 messages) there is no message with parent==id.
Mainly individual posts without replies would mean there are lots of entries with parent==0 and thread==id.

Re:Recount Categories Stats ERROR 6 Months, 1 Week ago
I ran into this problem as well when updating from 1.0.0 to 1.0.4. The issue I found was that an old top-level sample category from the original install had a parent of itself rather than 0. I found this by looking at my category table manually, doing this:

select id, parent from PFX_fb_categories order by id asc;

In my case it was the very first category, id = 1, which had a parent = 1 as well. By setting the parent = 0, it then showed up in the forum administration and I was able to simply delete that sample category. After that, running the stats updater worked perfectly.
