Re:Did this Fireboard project die? 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
well I think I got my answer.

Another case of being to busy to do the little things that would allow the time needed to do the big things. A flaw in logic that has crippled more great projects and businesses then perhaps any.

Combined with the "write it yourself if you think you can do better" attitude clearly defines the future. If the developers and supporters don't understand that this is a symbiotic relationship then it will never reach their intended goals or mine.

This ongoing insinuation that this is some selfless act of pure kindness and giving on behalf of the developers is either stupidity or ignorance but regardless its insulting.

At the very least it becomes part of their resume and increases their stature and value within their profession. That is the least it does. Done correctly it increases their stature to the level where they become famous and wealthy.

This ongoing comment about how valuable their time is implies that somehow they are more important then us. It will have to be very very well executed to lure me back after eating up so much of my apprently worthless time, meaningless reputation and less important life.

Apparently we are not worth the effort it would have taken to create a simple sticky thread for this forum in the last 7 months. God forbid your eyes should fall on my shadow for surely a worthless user such as I is not worthy of the time of the developer.

As other person already mentioned, it is not required to be a coder to contribute. Did someone wrote documentation for Fireboard?

Of course it is easier to complain and require.

Let's say (or you can imagine if you want) that I am going to volunteer to work on a native forum extension for joomla. I will work on it when I have spare time.

I work 5 hours a day, I have a family and friends. I have 1-2 hours 3 days a week for the forum project and I work for free. I surely will gain some experience to show off on my resume' if I am looking for a job in the future.

So as I already said, that I only have 1-2 hours 3 days a week to develop a free forum for all to use on joomla sites.

It took me 3 months to finish (test, etc.) and we have a stable version. People are excited and already 2,000 people downloaded it. Almost half of them are having problems, errors, bugs, etc.
They come to me and ask tons of questions. And I do not have the time for it.

Another 2 months passed. Some people who knew how to fix the bugs they are using the forum extension successfully and those who did not know php and scripting or coding they still have the problems. I still do not have time to help them all. Half or more of the users are having issues, updates, bugs, errors, etc. And I can't help them all.

Some users fixed all the problems and are happy with it but they never shared with the solutions with others so they can be happy too.

50% or more of users are unhappy and they wasted 2-3 months trying to make the forum work on their websites. And i am telling them I do not have enough time to help you all! I have family, friends, work, life, etc.! I am sorry.

So, what do you think about this situation? Who's responsibility is it? Whose fault was it that this happened? Users? or the Developer?

There is a saying: "With great power comes great responsibility."

Do not try to run a website using any CMS and OS applications if:

1. You are poor and can't afford hiring a developer to fix it.
2. You can't fix it yourself.

So, the conclusion is that these extensions are only for those who can afford hiring someone to fix the issues and for those who know coding and scripting only.

For others, the best option is to buy a commercial CMS, and Forum with a support.

End of discussion.

Again, this is your opinion. I have a lot of friends who have no idea what HTML is that are doing well without paying anything.

Well if the user has to hire a developer there is no point in getting a free open source project. In the end it will be cheaper to start with a pay for use software. If you buy or download something for free you are looking for something that is functional. There are softwares that you can buy that cost less than the fees of hiring someone to fix just one bug. Plus every time that a bug arise you will have to keep hiring someone and in the end it will be the most expensive software that you had ever pay for it. So whats the point?
