well, I was writing a blog post about it, but it seems Greatpixels couldn't resist not posting

Yes, we rewrote all the codes, and started from zero. you will not see anymore joomlaboard/simpleboard traces there, while keeping the same features (and some more).

The main focus was to have a high speed and low demanding board, the way that when you click on Fireboard you wouldn't see any loading time. As you see, with around 35k members and 50k posts it takes like 0.04 sec to load (on local machine, server is faster). number of queries are dramatically reduced, e.g. the main page take 4 queries, when logged in, and 3 queries for guests. You do the math

Regarding the suppost for content management systems, I should correct that it is not a REAL native joomla 1.5 code, but will support Joomla 1.5 in non-legacy mode, meanwhile supporting Joomla 1.0.x as well (and most probably mambo)

And, forget about the refresh and new! problem. We don't have a primitive method anymore. It is an advanced read/unread control with min. database storage need and MARK read support.

Permissions are group based and as Greatpixels showed, it is pretty flexible.

I will prepare a blog post with more detailed information. keep in touch!

ps. Hey guys, keep here clean from your stuff, would ya?
ps2. Did we mention FireMessage is ready as well?

Cheers

I can say only WOW, from seeing the picture.
We, the users, needed to be sure that we use a secure, good and with future extension.

Good job...

@classixuk:
You are mostly right. We are trying to manage time-moral-work balances. That's why we decided (like firefox) if we want to stick with old codes and methods, we will end up no where. The code was so much patched (same with current Agora, sorry) so we had to start from a clean mainframe, keeping performance in mind. So here comes the new fireboard. It is a fast and unique code, as it is only programmed by me, Greatpixels and help from Andrew Eddie (Joomla team). It is not an extension of a component or a partial forum conversion. That's why we didn't include more programmers for initial phase, to avoid fragmenting the code.

In the process we have analyzed these forums extensively: SMF, PHPBB 3, VB and current Joomla forums. So you can be sure that you get the strong concepts of these forums (if there were any) integrated in a unique and new code.

Thanks for taking the time to reply danialt. It means a lot.

As I stated previously, I have done the same with a couple of my sites in the past. I wanted to go on, but each and every time I would leave it, simply because it would mean answering scores of messages about stuff when quite frankly I had other things I could be doing with my time (the stuff the users don't see).

I definitely think that the answer is to have at least one admin/moderator do a blog post once per week, even if as I said, it is to say "There is no news this week, but we hope everyone is still enjoying using the Fireboard software!". That way, you don't need to get involved with reading or answering posts in the forum.

Also, well done on the Firemessage situation. To be honest, I thought that it had been abandoned due to the page stating Feb release.

DanialT, do you know when any of the 2 softwares will be close to having a release date mentioned on the site?

Cheers,

Chris.

P.S. @GrumbleMarc; see what I mean about developing yet another forum component? I think that GreatPixel's and danialt's announcements today just pretty much killed off any people moving from Fireboard to your forum. The only way you would gain users now would be if the release of Fireboard didn't happen Unless of course, you are happy to spend all of your waking hours and minutes developing for less than 20 or so users (and then re-writing it all over again to work with 1.5 Native).
That's what I meant when I said that your time might be spent in vain unless you are developing something completely different like a myBB hybrid. I was just trying to help.

Meanwhile - while we all wait for the NEW FB to show up,

lots of fixes went into the FB 1.0.4 codeline. If you have access to the SVN, I encourage you to grab the latest files.

Maybe it's worth pulling a final 1.0.5 version off from it (not my call - I'm just here fixing bugs...)- to get you by until the new FB is ready. Many 1.0.4 bugs are fixed and a lot of SEO cleanup has happened in there.

Can you please prepare the package, while you are on it?

Woo Hoo! This morning I thought that there would be no more Fireboard. Now it looks as if there will be a 1.05 release by Wednesday, and a 1.1 (or will it be 2.0 seeing as it's been completely rewritten?) release very soon!

Fireboard is back and breathing!

I've got no problems. If FireBoard proves to live up to the claims made today then more power to it. The utter lack of communication on your part was totally inexcusable. You left the community out in the cold for a long time with no news. No one is that busy.
