forum is so damn slow 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago
My forum is so slow compared to the rest of the site, I even changed to a private server today, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference whatsoever. Check the link out, there's anything I can do to speed things up a bit?

Current version of Fireboard together with SEF can be slow. You can try without SEF in case.

We are working on a v2 which will be released soon.

Thanks for the reply, I have heard about turning off SEF. now forgive my ignorance but are you talking about the section in global configuration? I suppose I haven't already dabbled in this because I'm always a little worried about affecting my site's performance. Number one on Google for "Oscar Fish" is something I'm quite proud of, and I wouldn't like to affect that. Anyway, I'll try turning it off on another website that isn't so active and see what happens.

It should not be slow on a dedicated server.

I run FB with sh404SEF on my site and the average page load time (if you have fast internet access) is 500-700ms
I had up to 200 concurrent users so far, which got the server to 25% busy.

I have about 25-30k unique visitors per month now doing 250k pageviews per month. No performance issues whatsoever.
I also have a much larger category structure that creates extra workload.

Check it out: www.starVmax.com

First off:
Check you error log. You must not see tons of errors and warnings. It puts a huge burden on apache.

What other mambots and plugins are you running?

Also Joomla 1.5 is slower than 1.0.15 (which I am running).

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the error log, however, I haven't really done anything with it said basically, I haven't a clue what to do. Obviously, you know what you're talking about. So I have taken three screenshots of the error log. I'm assuming Iran to the correct place, the root folder and then my website. I'm a little bit reluctant to start deleting things in case I completely mess everything out, however I would like to speed the forum up. It's his little faster now I have custom meta tag in to stop the bots, I was getting thousands every day. I think is a little faster, maybe it's just my imagination. Anyway, if possible, could you tell me what I need to delete? Thanks in advance

Don't delete anything.

Please attach the error.log.2008-06-24.gz to a reply here. That way I can have a look at it.

2nd question how much memory has that server total/free/used?

I thought the easiest thing to do was copy the graph that indicates how much I have used etc. To be quite honest, it doesn't mean a lot to me at the moment because I haven't done this before, you'll probably understand it more than me. At the moment it seems I am using 386 MB. I have deleted a lot of stuff like statistics program that were installed, I think this might've make a difference as well. I hope this is all the information you need.

Adjust Resources:
Currently oscarfishlover is guaranteed 386 MB for $38.60/month. (Burstable to 772 M

did you manage to find any problems? I have gone to the forum and disabled stats in the plug-ins, as well as recent posts. I have also optimized the fire board forum tables but the forum is still running very slowly. Yesterday, I increased the dedicated server up to around 700 MB but that didn't make the slightest difference.

PHP over CGI is slow and memory hungry. Ask your provider if there isn't possibility to use php running as module.

Sorry - I was busy working on 1.0.5 release.

As I thought you have mountains of errors in your error file.

I agree with Jerry that php over cgi is slow to begin with and consumes tons of memory. You are running Opensource on a server platform that really doesn't belong there. You best next step would be to switch hosting and go with Linux hosting. It consumes a lot less memory and you will be surprised how much faster your site will run. With a good control panel it is as easy to manage as Windows - if not easier.
Still need to fix all those errors. The error log should be clean or have minimal entries in it. You have dozens or more per second.

Hope this helps!
