Thanks to both of you for getting back to me. Okay, switching hosting is not a problem, I will probably go with Go Daddy, they do quite a good package which offers Linux and Windows that would suit me, in fact it would be cheaper than one of the ones I use at the moment. I think I can probably use Joomla Cloner the website, what do you think?

Now regarding the erroras in the log. how do I go about fixing them?

You can't fix the error as it's not your fault.
The hoster should fix this or at least change to ISAPI PHP.
Most of the errors are pointing to missing files and lack of memory.

In your case, I'll change the host ASAP!

Read hereabout the error.

so I can't fix the errors? I have been thinking that maybe go daddy would be a better option since I can choose Linux. what happens when I transfer my website to another ISP, are all the errors completely wiped out when I go to a new hosting company?

okay, so if I create an account with go daddy, I can use joomla cloner to transfer the site.

the biggest advantage I can see with dreamhost over go daddy is I can have unlimited my SQL databases, unlike godaddy where the maximum is 50

I can recommend GoDaddy. That's where my site(s) are running. I use a dedicated server LINUX setup with Fedora and the Virtuozzo (I believe thats' the make - can't check from here) control panel.

Even with MySQl query caching turned up all the way (BTW this works wonders for site performance) I need less than 1GB of memory. I overbought 4GB of RAM and right now can't even use it. I run 5 domains on my server, 1 Joomla 1.0.x and 1 Joomla 1.5.x

Joomla 1.0.x is also quite a bit faster than the newer Joomla. If you want top performance I would stick with 1.0.x for now.

In addition here is a MySQL tuning script. You need to command line into the server and su to run it:

File Attachment:
File Name: tuning_primer.zip
File Size: 12832

It will tell you what parameter to change for MySQL to make it run really fast.

I can run 200 concurrent FireBoard users with less than 20% CPU on the server.

Hope this helps!

BTW: I use JoomlaPack to clone/move sites. Free, simple easy - just need to remember your userids and passwords

godaddy as a host for your website ? My advice is to avoid companies so big, usually you have more troubles than with small/medium companies which care more about their clients.Choose one from downtownhost/hostgator/msfnhosting.

Working great for me. 24h support, quick turn around and no outages caused by them in 3+ years. There is something to be said about scale and size. You might get a good deal with a small local shop, but my experience with GoDaddy is 5 star.

so I should go with Linux?

It's difficult deciding what to do,could you have a look at these two packages. Most of them are dedicated servers. To be honest, I can't go to expensive, the cheapest on go daddy is around $40 a month. is this just for one website?

this is the other one

www.downtownhost.com/hosting.html

I've only got one website with an active forum that needs speeding up, I just want to work with that one for the time being. I'm a little confused about the dedicated servers, the semi-dedicated server seems to be for unlimited domains, however the dedicated server doesn't mention anything about this

I woulde definitely go Linux. Its the fastest option and remembere Apache, PHP, MySQL all come from Linux. Running them on Windows is nice that you can do it, but for me is a clash of cultures to begin with.

On GoDaddy you can get an extra 20% of with various discounts they offer all the time. If you combine that with the savings for a 1 year subscription (usually 10%) you get the smallest private dedicated server for about 40-50 bucks a month. Now we are talking dedicated server vs. anything shared.

That's the way to go for any higher volume site that wants to ensure continuous great user experience.

Rigth now I have 50 concurrent users on my site and that's low volume as of late. They will do 100-200 posts just today. In addition search engines like Google are pulling down up to 3000 pages per day per search engine. In the google tools I see google getting my pages in 500-700ms.
I am very happy with performance with FireBoard. We will make it much better in the new releases but there is no need to see slow running forums even with todays versions.

sorry to keep going over the same questions, if you look at the link to g0 daddy, you will see the deluxe plan. how many domains can I put on this, or is it just for one?I am used to shared hosting where it tells you how many domains you are allowed to host on the package

The Deluxe Plan comes with support for 30 Domains by default. If you need more you just upgrade the control panel to the unlimited version. 30 domains is a lot and should last you q while...

BTW It's the Plesk Panel that is made by Virtuozzo that I am running as well.
