Well, that's a real shame.
I really thought that this project would be great when it began. It's a shame that it's no longer being developed.
I also see that under the news on this site, "firemessage" has an expected release date of Feb 2008. LOL
I think what has happened here is that some very talented coders took the old JoomlaBoard software and updated it slightly. Full of enthusiasm, and spurred on by the impressive results, they decided to release it to the Joomla community.
Unfortunately for them, they didn't realise how many people would take the extension up, and with that, it means demands on your time as people find bugs, produce wishlists etc.
All of a sudden, something they previously enjoyed and were excited about must have seemed like a noose around their necks. I can just imagine one or two of them deciding to leave the site for a weekend off, only to come back here on the Monday to find 200 more messages of "How do I do this?". The workload must have increased and the enthusiasm wore off.
And of course, eventually they ended coming to the site less and less (too stressful).
So now we have ended up with a more or less abandoned software, and a support site that's only good for a google ads revenue and template club affiliate earnings (the whole front page seems to be advertising different templates for Joomla with links to the template sites).
I can't say I haven't done this before with one or two sites myself. Managing a forum and community's needs, as well as trying to update the site with new content, do the technical stuff/upgrades and live your life as well, can be pretty demanding of your time.
It is unfortunate though that this promising forum software has died. There is probably no point in installing this from here on in on any new Joomla sites, because it looks as if there will be no further development on this extension. Joomla 1.5 is quickly becoming more popular too, and there are more and more extensions being released for that software
So what are the options? Back to SMF with a bridge, or maybe PHPbb 3 with a bridge? What's everyone else planning on doing to get around the death of Fireboard?
