OK friends, the first preview is here. All these steps work flawlessly and they are not cpu intensive (it is done in 300 steps).

It now imports:

categories
messages
signatures

It will import:
Attachments

The rest are not in my list.

Will your version support importing from databases outside of Joomla or will the SMF tables need to be in the same database as the Joomla tables?

only inside joomla. the worst scenario for you, you just copy the tables to joomla database and vola! so it shouldnt be a problem.

That really is too bad, as we use a lot of custom smilies (500+), so there is no way Im gonna convert them all by hand.

Is there an option in fireboard to set 'hidden' smilies, or something like smf has 'popup smilies', so there would be a link under the default smilies and in the popup all smilies are displayed?

If this is true I write my own converter for this?

Also what about private messages?

I would assume that the Fireboard converter will not import private messages due to the fact that there is no native PM built into the board. This, however, is only an assumption and you know what happens when one ASS-U-ME-s
