Will your version support importing from databases outside of Joomla or will the SMF tables need to be in the same database as the Joomla tables?

only inside joomla. the worst scenario for you, you just copy the tables to joomla database and vola! so it shouldnt be a problem.

Having never attempted any kind of work in any database, can you point me to a resource that would help me attempt this?

You need to export your tables and then import them to the same db as FB

@Progress
It is nearly finished, now struggling with attachments. But as there are many modifications to the whole FB, it is meaningless to release it at the moment. We are working on group permissions and profile pages.

About the PM, as you said it is on pm developers to develop such an import. As for ClexusPM it will have it for SMF in the next mid may release, as far as I can tell.

Here are two possible ways to do this:

You should have access to a software called phpmyadmin, if not you can get it here www.phpmyadmin.com. This is usually provided by the company who is hosting your joomla website, otherwise you will have to download and install it on your host yourself.

Phpmyadmin has an import/export function. OTHERWISE

You can use the backup function of SMF to export the smf tables to a file which you can load using mysql, if you have telnet access to your host site.

Welcome to the world of joomla DBA'ing

Hello,

I don't speak english very well... so i've just wanted to understand. For the moment, there isn't any converter SMF -> FB in the component Fireboard ? Because i try to install it with the new update of file (26 04 2007) and i didn't find it ? It's right ?

I used bridge SMF oh joomlahack since two years... Fireboard, it's OOOUUUAAAHHHHHOOOOO :) It's the solution of many problems (update, security, no hack...) ... So i will be patient ! Thanks to don't put this component in "commercial licence" !
