I'm moving my site to a new host and would like to use Fireboard there instead of the bridged (Joomlahacks) SMF installation.

Before I start the conversion to Fireboard....do I need to install SMF again first on the new host or would it be enough to just copy the SMF database.

And how about the user rights that are on SMF.
The Fireboard user rights are much more simplified because of the limitations in Joomla...how will those be after the conversion?

thx....<br><br>Post edited by: Rascal71, at: 2007/05/03 16:16

I used the converter posted earlier in the thread and that doesnt require files from Joomla or FB. As long as the database contained the SMF and the Joomla/FB tables the script would work.

I cant say for sure about the official converter discussed later in this thread but I am going to assume it will work in a similar fashion. Let's let Danialt answer that one just to be sure though.

Re:SMF to FireBoard 1 Year, 7 Months ago
I have read the whole thread but with options available..i am getting a little confused here
This is how it is and what i want (someone please suggest me the best way there is right now to get this done)
-I have a smf forum that is NOT integrated with joomla..what i want to do is convert my SMF which is standalone and import all the data(no attachments there) and users into fireboard.

Can someone tell me the best way to get around this?

Thanks

Shouldnt matter that your SMF install isnt already bridged with Joomla. Just copy all the database files from your SMF database into your Joomla database and run the converter script. When the conversion is complete youc an go back into your database and delete all the old SMF tables.

If you have a large usergroup and alot of posts/attachments I say wait for danialt's converter. If your forum is fairly new like mine was (I had maybe 15 posts altogether, and no attachments) the converter posted earlier in this thread works fine.

i seem to be in the same situation.
I have Joomla! without any forums attached to it. I installed SMF in stand alone mode in a seperate folder and not linked at all with my Joomla! db.

If i want to go FB , what would be the exact steps to follow. I already lost a forums by upgrading and my users were not happy campers, so i don't want to repeat the horror movie.

thanks for your help

The one for the next release assumes you have already the users in your joomla, but shouldnt be difficult to add user migration to it too. let's see-.

I would setup a test installation by cloning your production system onto a subdomain or locally on your pc using xampp or vertigoserv so you can use the localhost address for the test install.

Then you cam play and screw up to your heart's content, until you get it right, at which point I would take another copy of the production site, refresh the test setup with it and then do the conversion once more following exactly what you did for the successful attempt. If this works I would backup the production server, then do the same steps again in production. If it fails, you have a file and database level backup to restore the production site to its pre-conversion state.

Maybe I should do a mini tutorial on this....

Good luck
