Is the SVN version the best one for less Bugs? 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Hi BoJ Team!

I've just started using Tortoise SVN client for another component and it works well for me.

I want a forum, like the look of FireBoard, but see lots of complaints here about 'bugs'. I guess there are going to be lots of issues with *so many* users with different configurations and upgrades. A bit of a nightmare.

My situation is simpler. It will be a fresh install of FB version 1.0.3

My questions are:

  • Should I use the 1.0.3 release or the SVN?

  • How do I access SVN?

  • Is there a changes notification mailing list or .. ?

  • Are changes being made to the database or just the code?

Notes:

  • I do have *some* time to investigate bugs

  • It's *not* 'mission critical'

  • I would like to use existing modules with it if possible

Any info appreciated.

Keep up the *excellent* work!

As I write this the SVN version is the same as the 1.0.3 version (though that will probably change by the time you read this)

That's a surprise. I assumed that it bugs were being ironed out continuously.

Perhaps someone is taking a siesta after the hard work getting this release out.

I was going to ask "How do you access SVN?" again, but I've found that at JoomlaCode:

joomlacode.org/gf/project/fireboard/scmsvn/?action=AccessInfo

That's true. We gave a break after stable release (as it took lot of time) and soon we will start again. btw. stable doesn't have huge amount of bugs with huge amounts of users. They are simple bugs that each software has.

If you want to start fresh, use stable. SVN is always more buggy.

Some update on that question? Is it still better to use SVN or 1.0.3 stable realease or will there be a minor release number in the next days?

I would say it's better to use the stable version if you aren't actually testing the component. I only used the SVN during testing because of the chance of a major bug getting into the code that might be detrimental to a live production environment. Just my opinion.

Always you the stable version unless you want to help testing.
