Wow great two points about this wonderful forum:

1. The installed version still shows itself as 1.0.0 - beta, rather than 1.0.1

2. I see no conversion utility for smf -> fb

One way to tell you have some new files and hopefully the whole version, is you will notice that the old version had two links to 'Best of Joomla' and the new beta version 1.01 has only one link at the bottom to BJ.

Plus, as I mention at another post, I uninstalled and reinstalled the old way and it worked with the exception of com_fireboard not uninstalling so after doing that manually the new upload of beta version 1.01 went fine and no forum data was lost. I tried it on three sites so far and every time I had to FTP in to get rid of com_fireboard first.
