TOPIC: Did this Fireboard project die?

Re:Did this Fireboard project die? 2 Months, 1 Week ago
I did not say to developers not to implement profiles and user list. I just sayed that fireboard needs more important things than those.

We have different oppinions what is partial functional forum. Forum with bugs, forum with very bad code structure(so many redundant code and because of that adding new features causes lot more bugs; very unoptimized using of mysql database/redundant mysql calls), week database structure(joins where they not ment to be, and no joins where they ment to be), lack of polls... This is partial functional forum for me. I can live with simple profiles.

I did very bad deccission when I decided to use Fireboard on my site(I was pressured by the time), but I hope with this new release my previvios words will lose there meaning . Sorry if I was rude i didnt want to sound like that.

Its great to see that this project is still going!

The v2 is looking great so far, can't wait to see what new features and performance enhancements it will bring. I hope you get some more community involvement in the project too. I'm sure there's lots of us out there that would be willing to help out.

I'm looking forward to the 1.0.5 release. Keep up the great work guys!

I have already started using phpBB with bridge, because I thought Fireboard was done. I don't have users yet, just my friends, 4-5 people. How long it has been since Joomlaboard to Fireboard transition. Since then users have been fixing, fixing and fixing the bugs, constantly. I am happy to see that Fireboard is still here.

One thing as some other mentioned already is that it would have been easier for regular users like me, not coders, if we knew what was going on. Another user mentioned about how new users today are in a very confusing situation. They have no idea what is going on and download the Component and have problems. Come here ask questions no support, I am sure they are frustrated.

Well, let's see what the new version will bring. I am sure that it will be the same thing, "Help!" "How do I?" "I have an error!" "I can't install!" and other endless issues, problems, errors, and questions to come until the next stable version. And goes and goes. May be I am over reacting to it, or wrong, but that's how it feels and that's how I think. And I know that this is how it works with OS apps. Have to deal with it or go buy Commercial one with support that is expensive.

It would have been clear for me as a regular user and others if I could see some clear message that says, we are working hard on the next version so please be patient.

It felt like BestofJoomla was a ghost and haunted website with just some flashy ads.

I thank you all who are working on the next version. I hope it will be a good one to use and practical, usable not just fancy. Speed and performance is important for me, I do not really care about the look. Also it would be nice if we could embed Youtube videos easily!

Thank you and good luck to you all!

Since last talk:

User profile nearly completed, with options for

- user information (profile and pass), changeable by admins and moderators
(depending on rights)
- forum/category/thread subscriptions & fav management in front end with read status (so you can check if there are new posts to your fav posts or subsc. posts)
- forum and category announcements (a new feature that stands a level higher than sticky, like sticky, under forum announcement <- from config).
- User message list with complete texts and read status
- merge/split/move/delete for moderators
...

interface is nearly redone too, and it rocks (screenshots coming after break).

We are working on "search" and security checks, which are tough parts, and after that we should be ready for an alpha release for translators (or anyone else)

Actually i'm coming late to this discussion.
But one point i'd like to place here (well it will not be considered in the upcoming release) is the possibility of simplicity.

I haven't thought about in terms of the structure of fireboard, but within all boards in the web i loved the look of vanilla (getvanilla.com) really much and maybe it can be an idea for fireboard in the future to integrate an option to exlcude parts of the forum.

The possibility of stripping down elements like user pictures, "reads/hits" or any other informational elements would be a nice one. Administrators of Fireboard would be able to "design" their forum in the administrative-backend of FB trough choosing a simple or a complex mode or deactivate parts of the frontend look.

Just an idea, but maybe a nice one.
