Freelance Design Contracts &amp; Templates

<img src="http://www.bestofjoomla.com/bestofresources_thumbnails/s_1248534144.jpg" alt = "" border = "0" align="left" />Using the right forms and freelance design contracts is critical for today&#039;s designers, whether you are a freelancer or work in a firm. The forms below have been provided by Jason Vaughn of CreativePublic, a business savvy creative that is also a DesignMaster faculty member. Customize and add your own logo and you&#039;re in business — the design business.

You will need Adobe Illustrator to alter or change the current forms. If you don&#039;t have Adobe Illustrator, you can use Macromedia Freehand to customize these files to fit your needs.

For those that do not have Adobe Illustrator, PDF files have been created for printing and viewing. However, you will not be able to alter the look and feel.

Joomla!: Visual QuickStart Guide: Making Your Site Dynamic with Menus

<img src="http://www.bestofjoomla.com/bestofresources_thumbnails/s_1232396951.jpeg" alt = "" border = "0" align="left" />Because your visitors access and view all information through the menu clicks, it’s vitally important to get them right. This chapter walks you through using menus in Joomla!

Menus are the most important part of setting up a Joomla web site, because you use menus to display content. Menus not only control navigation but literally define how the content is laid out and presented to the user. Nothing appears on the web site without being linked to a menu item. Because your visitors access and view all information through the menu clicks, it’s vitally important to get them right. The menu modules control the placement (position) of the menu items on the site, and the menu items control the presentation and layout of the content being displayed.

The good news is, you can easily edit and change menus—like anything else created in Joomla—as you create the site. To add a menu, you must do three things:

 1. Create a menu module.
 2. Configure and enable the menu module in the Module Manager.
 3. Add menu items to the menu module.

This is a chapter from the book Joomla!: Visual QuickStart Guide: Making Your Site Dynamic with Menus

The Web Developer&#039;s SEO Cheat Sheet

<img src="http://www.bestofjoomla.com/bestofresources_thumbnails/s_1210140331.png" alt = "" border = "0" align="left" />When I first started at SEOmoz about 9 months ago, I was the web development intern. My experience prior to the internship was limited entirely to writing code. Since then, I have spent literally hundreds of hours expanding my knowledge into different areas. Specifically, I have focused on accepted SEO techniques and small business practices. My beginner SEO checklists of the last few weeks have been the tangible result of my newly acquired knowledge. In an effort to return to my roots, I spent the majority of the day compiling what I believe to be the mother of all technical SEO cheat sheets. The recommended viewing format of this cheat sheet is as a PDF rather than the traditional blog post (I found the blog posts inconvenient to print). Let me know if this new format works better for all of you. I also included snippets below so you can see what is on the cheat sheet before you download it. Enjoy!

Why Firefox Is a Web Designer’s Best Friend

<img src="http://www.bestofjoomla.com/bestofresources_thumbnails/s_1196736819.png" alt = "" border = "0" align="left" />I don’t know how I’ll design a single graphic or write a single line of code without Firefox.

Apart from the darn good web browser that it is, Firefox is also a web designer’s best friend. You can do almost all of your web page testing within Firefox and use it as a tool along with your graphic and code editors to help you design better and faster.

This post is not one of those all encompassing guides that list pageloads of extensions that do almost the same thing, but rather it’s about the unique extensions that I love and use myself on a daily basis.

I’d also love to hear your recommendations and how you use Firefox as a web development tool.
